The Department of AYUSH, in collaboration with the Research Cell at AIIMS Bhopal, organized a distinguished guest lecture programme on July 10, bringing together medical professionals, researchers, faculty members and students to discuss integrative healthcare, homeopathy in neurological disorders, and scientific research communication.

Held at Lecture Theatre-5 of the institute, the event focused on promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based research while encouraging dialogue on emerging healthcare approaches. The programme featured two keynote lectures—one on the role of homeopathy in managing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and another on research paper writing and scientific publication.

AIIMS leadership emphasizes evidence-based healthcare

The programme was conducted under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, President of AIIMS Bhopal. Prof. (Dr.) Madhabananda Kar, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, attended the event as the chief guest.

Among the distinguished dignitaries present were Prof. (Dr.) Rajnish Joshi, Dean (Academics); Prof. (Dr.) Rehan-ul-Haq, Dean (Research); Shri Sandesh Kumar Jain, Deputy Director (Administration); and Prof. (Dr.) Vikas Gupta, Medical Superintendent.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Kar stressed the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in modern healthcare. He highlighted that evidence-based research and effective scientific communication are essential for strengthening India’s healthcare ecosystem and improving patient outcomes. He also encouraged researchers and clinicians to pursue collaborative efforts that integrate scientific rigor with innovative healthcare practices.

Homeopathy in ALS/MND management discussed

The first keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Gupta, a homeopathy clinician and researcher, on the topic, “Homeopathy in the Management of ALS/MND.”

During his presentation, Dr. Gupta discussed the potential scope of homeopathy in managing patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Motor Neuron Disease (MND), conditions that progressively affect nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement.

He explained various clinical perspectives and highlighted the importance of an integrative healthcare model aimed at improving patient care and quality of life. His lecture generated significant interest among participants, leading to discussions on evolving therapeutic approaches and the need for further research in this field.

According to the presentation, Dr. Gupta shared details of an 18-year-old patient with MND who, he said, experienced complete reversal of the disease following homeopathic treatment. He also presented additional cases that, according to him, demonstrated improvements in persistent symptoms, stabilization of weight loss, reduction in muscle wasting and weight gain in some patients.

The claims were presented during the academic lecture as part of discussions on integrative healthcare. ALS and MND remain serious neurodegenerative disorders for which conventional medicine currently has limited treatment options aimed primarily at slowing disease progression and managing symptoms. Further scientific research and clinical validation are required to establish the effectiveness of any new therapeutic approach.

Research paper writing session guides young scholars

The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Nakul Parashar on “From Manuscript to Publication: A Comprehensive Guide to Research Paper Writing.”

Drawing upon his experience in higher education and academic publishing, Dr. Parashar provided participants with practical guidance on preparing scientific manuscripts and navigating the publication process.

His session covered key aspects of research ethics, selecting appropriate journals, maintaining research integrity, understanding peer-review mechanisms and improving manuscript quality. He also explained international indexing platforms such as Scopus and Web of Science and discussed how researchers can enhance the visibility and impact of their scholarly work.

The lecture was particularly appreciated by young researchers, postgraduate students and faculty members seeking to strengthen their academic writing and publication skills.

Interactive discussions conclude the programme

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers on issues related to clinical research, integrative medicine and academic publishing.

Discussions throughout the programme highlighted the growing importance of evidence-based healthcare, ethical research practices and effective dissemination of scientific knowledge. Participants exchanged ideas on strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and improving research quality across healthcare disciplines.

At the conclusion of the programme, the Department of AYUSH and the Research Cell expressed gratitude to the speakers, dignitaries, faculty members, researchers and students for their enthusiastic participation.

Organizers said the event reflected AIIMS Bhopal’s continued commitment to promoting academic excellence, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and encouraging research-driven healthcare for the benefit of society. The programme also reinforced the institution’s emphasis on collaboration between different systems of medicine while underscoring the importance of scientific validation and responsible research in advancing patient care.
