A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district claimed the life of an Assam Rifles jawan and left four other personnel injured on Monday, raising fresh concerns over security in India’s Northeast. The incident occurred near Sukhovi, close to an Assam Rifles training centre and not far from the Assam-Nagaland interstate border.
According to defence officials, the soldiers were travelling in a Bolero vehicle when the suspected IED exploded, severely damaging the convoy. One jawan succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast, while four others were injured and immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet officially released the identities of the deceased or the injured personnel.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Soon after the explosion, Assam Rifles and other security agencies launched a large-scale search and area domination operation to locate those responsible for planting the explosive device. The operation is continuing in and around the affected area as investigators collect evidence from the blast site.
Officials said the attack appears to have been carefully planned, though no militant group has claimed responsibility so far.
