In a significant move aimed at strengthening women’s employability and economic participation, the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana, has partnered with Launch Girls to introduce a three-year Career Readiness Programme for female students across 43 government degree and autonomous colleges in the state. The initiative will begin with first-year students enrolled during the 2026–27 academic session and continue until their graduation, preparing them for employment, entrepreneurship, or higher education.
Three-Year Programme to Bridge Education and Employment
The newly launched programme has been designed to run alongside students’ regular academic curriculum. Instead of focusing solely on classroom education, it aims to equip young women with practical life and workplace skills that are increasingly essential in today’s competitive environment.
Participants will receive structured training in confidence-building, communication, financial literacy, digital literacy, and strategic thinking over three years. According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to ensure that students graduate with not only academic qualifications but also the skills required to successfully transition into professional careers or entrepreneurial ventures.
Addressing India’s Low Female Workforce Participation
The programme has been launched in response to the continuing gap between women’s educational achievements and their participation in the workforce.
The press release notes that although more young women are entering higher education institutions, their representation in the labour force remains comparatively low. Citing the Periodic Labour Force Survey Annual Report 2025, it states that only 40 percent of women aged 15 years and above are part of the labour force, compared to 79.1 percent of men. The initiative aims to help narrow this gap by preparing women with career-oriented skills during their college years.
Programme Officially Launched in Hyderabad
The Career Readiness Programme was formally launched in Hyderabad in the presence of senior officials from the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education.
Among those attending the launch were Prof. P. Balabhaskar, Joint Director of the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Rajendra Singh, Joint Director, and Prof. V. Rajendra Prasad, Academic Guidance Officer. The event marked the beginning of what officials described as a long-term investment in women’s professional development across Telangana’s public higher education institutions.
Commissioner Highlights Women’s Empowerment
Smt. A. Sridevasena, IAS, Commissioner of the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, said the programme reflects the department’s commitment to ensuring that young women graduate with both academic knowledge and practical skills.
She emphasised that supporting students from their first year through graduation would strengthen higher education’s role in preparing women for independent and meaningful careers beyond college.
Launch Girls CEO Stresses Long-Term Support
Neha Sahu, Co-founder and CEO of Launch Girls, said college represents a critical opportunity for many young women, but a degree alone does not always guarantee employment or entrepreneurial success.
She stated that the partnership would enable the organisation to work closely with students throughout three important years of their education, helping them develop confidence, direction, and practical pathways for their future.
Officials described the collaboration as an important step towards integrating career readiness directly into the government college experience.

Rather than offering isolated workshops, the programme will provide continuous support over the entire undergraduate journey, enabling students to steadily build essential workplace competencies while pursuing their degrees. The initiative also aims to strengthen the economic participation of young women across Telangana by making career preparation an integral part of higher education.
