A major cybersecurity incident involving the Tribeca Festival has raised fresh concerns about data protection in the entertainment industry after an unsecured database reportedly exposed hundreds of thousands of records linked to celebrities, filmmakers, executives and media professionals. The incident has drawn widespread attention because names associated with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro, were allegedly found within the exposed records.
According to cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler, multiple databases connected to the Tribeca Festival were publicly accessible without password protection or encryption before being secured. The researcher reported that four databases containing approximately 666,000 records were left accessible on the internet. Fowler stated that the exposed data covered records collected over several years, stretching from 2019 to 2026. While much of the information reportedly related to festival operations and communications, one backup database allegedly contained more sensitive details, including device information, IP addresses and encrypted passwords.
The cybersecurity expert emphasized that there is currently no evidence indicating the information was accessed or misused by malicious actors. However, because the databases were openly accessible, it remains impossible to determine whether unauthorized individuals viewed the information before it was secured.

Among the celebrities reportedly linked to the exposed records were Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Angelina Jolie, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Rami Malek, Neil Patrick Harris and several other prominent entertainment figures.
The presence of these names has intensified concerns because celebrities are frequent targets of phishing attacks, impersonation schemes and identity-related cybercrime. Experts warn that even limited personal or professional contact information can be valuable to cybercriminals attempting sophisticated scams.

Representatives of the Tribeca Festival acknowledged the incident but disputed reports suggesting celebrities’ private personal contact details had been exposed.
According to the festival, the majority of the information consisted of publicly available business contacts, including talent agencies, public relations representatives, management offices and information already published on festival-related platforms.
