NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday used the latest edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat to celebrate India’s emerging sporting talent, promote environmental conservation, and spotlight inspiring stories of social service from across the country.
During the programme, the Prime Minister praised Indian athletes for their recent performances, particularly the record-breaking achievements witnessed at the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi. He highlighted the growing confidence and competitiveness of Indian sportspersons, saying their performances reflected the country’s rising stature in global athletics.
Among the athletes mentioned was sprinter Gurindervir Singh, whose national-record performance in the men’s 100-metre event drew special appreciation. Modi said such accomplishments inspire young Indians and demonstrate the results of dedication, discipline and hard work.
The Prime Minister also focused on environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. He lauded the efforts behind India’s first dedicated Ganga Dolphin Rescue Ambulance, describing it as an innovative step towards safeguarding aquatic wildlife. Referring to a recent rescue operation in Uttar Pradesh, he noted that the specialised vehicle functions like a mobile medical unit designed to provide immediate assistance to injured or stranded dolphins.
Modi said the protection of the Ganga dolphin goes beyond saving a single species and contributes to preserving the ecological balance of river systems. He stressed that biodiversity conservation remains essential for protecting India’s natural heritage for future generations.
The monthly broadcast also featured stories of individuals making meaningful contributions to society. The Prime Minister highlighted the work of Kerala-based swimming instructor Saji Valasheril, whose initiative has helped thousands of specially-abled children and individuals learn swimming. Modi praised the effort as an example of how personal commitment can transform lives and strengthen communities.
Addressing broader social issues, Modi urged citizens to remain cautious during the ongoing summer season and take necessary precautions against extreme heat conditions. He encouraged people to stay hydrated, protect vulnerable family members and follow health advisories issued by authorities.
Water conservation was another major theme of the programme. The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of responsible water usage and called for greater public participation in efforts to preserve natural resources. He said community-driven initiatives can play a crucial role in addressing water-related challenges across the country.
Modi also encouraged young people to pursue constructive hobbies and develop a closer connection with science and nature. He suggested activities such as astronomy and participation in local science clubs, saying such interests can broaden perspectives and inspire curiosity among students.
The programme further reflected on positive stories emerging from different parts of India, with the Prime Minister emphasizing that collective efforts in sports, environmental protection and social service are helping shape a stronger and more responsible society. He said the achievements of ordinary citizens often serve as powerful examples of national progress and community spirit.
The latest episode of Mann Ki Baat continued the programme’s tradition of showcasing grassroots initiatives, celebrating achievements and encouraging public participation in nation-building through stories of inspiration and service.
