The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has marked a significant milestone in India’s traditional healthcare sector, reporting that it provided healthcare services to more than 3.77 million patients over the past decade. The institute released a report documenting its achievements on the occasion of its Foundation Day, highlighting the expansion of clinical services, rising patient numbers and the growing reach of Ayurveda-based healthcare.
According to the report, AIIA and its affiliated and outreach centres served a total of 3,774,524 patients between October 2016 and September 2026. The figures reflect the institute’s expanding healthcare operations and its efforts to strengthen the role of Ayurveda in India’s healthcare system through clinical services, research, education and institutional partnerships.
AIIA’s Decade of Healthcare Achievements
The institute’s main campus in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi, accounted for the largest share of patient consultations and treatments. Approximately 3,037,077 patients received healthcare services at the campus during the ten-year period.
AIIA’s clinical infrastructure includes outpatient department (OPD) facilities capable of attending to around 3,000 patients daily and a 200-bed inpatient department (IPD). These facilities enable the institute to provide consultations and inpatient care to patients seeking treatment through Ayurveda.
The decade-long figures offer an overview of the institute’s growth since its establishment in 2016 and highlight the importance of expanding healthcare capacity to meet increasing demand.
Outreach Centres Extend Ayurveda Services Beyond Delhi
Beyond its principal campus, AIIA has expanded its reach through satellite facilities, affiliated institutions and outreach centres in different locations.
These include its satellite centre in Goa, along with healthcare facilities and service locations at Safdarjung Hospital, the UPSC Building, the National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar, the IAS Training Centre in Mussoorie and Kevadia, Ekta Nagar.
Together, these centres attended to approximately 737,000 patients during the reporting period. Their contribution demonstrates how the institute has extended its services beyond New Delhi, making Ayurveda-based healthcare accessible to a wider population.
The expansion of these facilities also highlights the importance of institutional collaboration in reaching patients across different geographical areas and strengthening access to traditional systems of medicine.
Patient Footfall Rises More Than Fourfold
AIIA Director Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati attributed the growing patient numbers partly to increased acceptance of Ayurveda during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the years that followed.

According to the report, the institute treated approximately 123,000 patients in 2020. By September 2026, the number had increased to more than 540,000, representing growth of over four times compared with the 2020 figure.
The rise indicates a substantial increase in demand for the institute’s clinical services. It also reflects the expanding public interest in Ayurveda and the institute’s efforts to accommodate a growing number of patients.
However, patient footfall alone does not establish treatment effectiveness. Continued clinical research, evidence-based practice and systematic evaluation remain important for assessing healthcare outcomes and strengthening public confidence.
KAUMARACON-2026 Highlights Clinical and Academic Priorities
The release of the ten-year performance report coincides with the organisation of KAUMARACON-2026, placing healthcare delivery and professional engagement among the key themes of the institute’s Foundation Day celebrations.
The two developments underline AIIA’s broader priorities: expanding access to patient care while advancing Ayurveda through scientific research, quality education and collaboration among healthcare institutions.
By combining clinical services with academic and research activities, the institute seeks to strengthen the professional and scientific foundations of Ayurveda and contribute to its development within the wider healthcare landscape.
Strengthening India’s Traditional Healthcare System
The All India Institute of Ayurveda is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Its mandate includes advancing healthcare services, education, research and innovation in Ayurveda, while promoting greater national and international recognition of India’s traditional medical systems.
The latest report provides a decade-long snapshot of the institute’s expanding clinical footprint, from its main hospital in Delhi to its satellite and outreach facilities. With more than 3.77 million patients served between October 2016 and September 2026, AIIA has recorded a substantial increase in the number of people accessing its services.
As the institute enters its next phase of development, sustaining service quality, strengthening research and improving patient access will remain important to its broader mission.
The Foundation Day milestone therefore represents not only a record of the institute’s achievements but also an opportunity to reinforce the role of responsible, evidence-informed Ayurveda in India’s evolving healthcare system.
