JAIPUR: Eternal Hospital in Jaipur has introduced Rajasthan’s first da Vinci Xi Robotic Cardiac Surgery Program for coronary artery bypass surgery, bringing advanced minimally invasive heart treatment to patients in the state. The initiative marks a major milestone in cardiac healthcare by making robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting (Robotic CABG) available locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to other metropolitan centres for specialised care.

The hospital began offering the robotic cardiac surgery program in March 2026 using the globally recognised da Vinci Xi Surgical System. Since its launch, the program has delivered encouraging clinical outcomes, reinforcing confidence in robotic-assisted cardiac procedures for suitable patients.

A major advancement in cardiac care

Coronary artery disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, making timely and effective treatment essential. Coronary artery bypass grafting has long been considered one of the most effective surgical treatments for patients with blocked coronary arteries. Traditionally, the procedure requires opening the chest by dividing the breastbone, resulting in a longer recovery period.

The newly introduced robotic program changes this approach significantly. Robotic CABG enables surgeons to perform bypass surgery through a few small incisions without splitting the breastbone. The advanced robotic technology provides surgeons with high-definition three-dimensional imaging and highly precise instrument control, allowing them to perform delicate procedures with greater accuracy.

This minimally invasive technique is designed to reduce the physical trauma associated with conventional surgery while maintaining the same high standards of surgical safety and effectiveness.

Benefits for patients

Hospital officials highlighted that robotic-assisted bypass surgery offers several advantages over traditional open-heart procedures.

Patients undergoing Robotic CABG generally experience:

  • Smaller surgical incisions
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Reduced blood loss during surgery
  • Lower risk of wound-related infections and complications
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery and earlier return to normal daily activities

These benefits can significantly improve the overall treatment experience and quality of life for eligible patients.

The availability of this technology within Rajasthan is expected to improve access to advanced cardiac treatment for patients from both the state and neighbouring regions.

Experts emphasise precision and faster recovery

Commenting on the development, Dr. Ajeet Bana, Chairman of Cardiac Sciences at Eternal Hospital, said the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System has transformed the way coronary bypass surgeries are performed.

According to him, robotic-assisted surgery allows surgeons to conduct complex procedures through small incisions without opening the chest in the traditional manner. This enables patients to recover faster while ensuring that the quality and safety of surgery remain uncompromised.

Dr. Bana added that the hospital aims to make advanced cardiac care more accessible to people across Rajasthan and nearby states by adopting modern surgical technologies.

Strengthening advanced healthcare in Rajasthan

The introduction of the robotic cardiac surgery program reflects Eternal Hospital’s broader commitment to expanding advanced healthcare services in the region.

Hospital authorities stated that the program combines cutting-edge robotic technology with the expertise of a multidisciplinary cardiac team comprising cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, anaesthesiasts, intensivists, nurses and rehabilitation specialists.

The integrated approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive evaluation, personalised treatment planning and coordinated postoperative care.

Healthcare experts believe that the adoption of robotic technology will contribute to improved surgical outcomes while encouraging wider acceptance of minimally invasive cardiac procedures in India.

Experienced leadership behind the program

The robotic cardiac surgery initiative is being led by Dr. Ajeet Bana, a senior cardiac surgeon with more than three decades of experience in cardiovascular surgery.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Bana has performed more than 20,000 cardiac surgeries, gaining expertise in complex valve procedures, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, redo cardiac surgery and structural heart interventions.

He has also played an important role in advancing cardiac surgery in Rajasthan through clinical research, surgical education and the introduction of modern cardiovascular treatment techniques.
