The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran appeared to collapse on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump declared that the truce was effectively over, raising fears of another major escalation in the Middle East. Speaking during the NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump accused Tehran of violating the agreement and launched a sharp verbal attack on Iran’s leadership while also criticizing several NATO allies over defence commitments and their response to the crisis.
The announcement came after renewed violence around the Strait of Hormuz, where commercial shipping was targeted, prompting fresh US military strikes on more than 80 Iranian positions. The renewed comments added another diplomatic dispute to an already tense summit dominated by security concerns.

Financial markets responded quickly to Trump’s announcement.
Oil prices climbed sharply as investors worried about possible disruptions to crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz. Stock markets across Europe weakened, while the US dollar strengthened amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
Analysts warned that any prolonged conflict affecting Gulf shipping lanes could trigger further volatility in energy markets and increase inflationary pressures worldwide.
