A recent Nomura Holdings analysis puts numbers behind this. Studying documented cases across Asia, Nomura found AI-related hiring in India reached 83,100 positions compared with 31,921 documented layoffs and attrition — a net positive of over 51,000 jobs. Across Asia as a whole, AI-related recruitment totalled 130,758 positions, with technology accounting for more than 90% of those hires, while 60,654 jobs were lost, roughly 60% of them in financial services.

Tellingly, most firing cases involved support teams replaced by chatbots, while most hiring involved IT-services graduates hired explicitly because of AI demand.

The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 reinforces this globally: employers expect 39% of core workforce skills to change by 2030, and technological skills — led by AI and big data — are projected to grow in importance faster than any other skill category.

For India specifically, demand for AI and big data specialists is projected to grow by over 60%, even as traditional clerical and data-entry roles face the highest displacement risk. Indian employers also expect to outpace global adoption curves, with 35% anticipating semiconductor and computing technologies will transform operations, and 21% pointing to quantum computing.
The winning combination remains: domain knowledge + AI literacy + human skills.
