Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reiterated Iran’s commitment to resolving regional and international disputes through diplomacy, while assuring the international community that Tehran remains prepared to facilitate maritime transit and safeguard shipping routes in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
During a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Monday, Pezeshkian thanked Japan for its humanitarian and medical assistance to Iran and emphasized that dialogue remains the most effective path toward easing tensions in the Middle East.
According to Iranian officials, the discussion focused on regional security, maritime stability, and the future of bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo. Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has consistently favored diplomatic engagement as a means of addressing international disagreements. He argued that constructive dialogue offers the best opportunity to overcome existing challenges and restore stability in the region.
The Iranian president also criticized what he described as failures by certain countries to honor their commitments, claiming that such actions have complicated diplomatic efforts. He further expressed concern over developments involving Israel, arguing that recent military and political actions have contributed to instability and hindered progress toward peaceful resolutions.
Addressing the situation in Lebanon, Pezeshkian voiced concern over reported ceasefire violations and the continuing displacement of civilians. He urged the international community to play a more active role in preventing further escalation and promoting lasting peace in the region.
A significant portion of the conversation focused on maritime security and freedom of navigation. Pezeshkian underscored the importance of maintaining safe and open international waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit corridors. Pezeshkian specifically assured Japan that Iran would continue efforts to ensure the smooth passage of Japanese-affiliated vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that Tehran is prepared to take all necessary measures within its capabilities to maintain stability and security in the region and to support normal maritime operations.
The president expressed optimism that improved regional conditions could create new opportunities for economic cooperation between Iran and Japan. He highlighted potential areas for collaboration, including infrastructure reconstruction, refinery modernization, port development, and other projects aimed at strengthening Iran’s economic recovery.
In addition, Pezeshkian requested Japan’s assistance in facilitating access to Iranian financial resources held in Japan. He said such cooperation could help Iran secure essential goods, medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals needed by its population.
For her part, Takaichi reaffirmed Japan’s support for diplomatic solutions to regional and international disputes. She expressed hope that relations between Japan and Iran would continue to expand across a range of sectors, including trade, technology, and economic cooperation.
The Japanese prime minister also referred to her recent consultations with American officials, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dialogue and pursuing diplomatic channels to reduce tensions and resolve differences peacefully. She stressed that sustained communication among all parties remains essential for preventing further instability in the region.
Takaichi additionally thanked Iran for its cooperation in ensuring the safety of international shipping routes. She welcomed the successful transit of Japanese vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and acknowledged Tehran’s role in helping maintain maritime security in one of the world’s most strategically significant waterways.
