DHAKA: Thousands of members of Bangladesh’s Hindu community took to the streets of the capital Dhaka on Friday to protest against the alleged desecration of an image of Lord Ram. The demonstrations drew participation from Sanatani organisations, students, religious leaders and members of civil society, all demanding swift action against those responsible and stronger protection for minority communities.
The protests were held at several locations, including the Shahbag area, one of Dhaka’s main centres for public demonstrations. Protesters carried placards, religious flags and banners while chanting slogans calling for justice and religious harmony.
Anger Over Alleged Desecration Incident
The demonstrations were triggered after reports emerged that an image of Lord Ram had allegedly been desecrated during tensions surrounding a proposed Ram statue project in Gaibandha district of northern Bangladesh.
