Purani Dilli 6 produced an outstanding batting performance to defeat West Delhi Lions by seven wickets in an exciting Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. Chasing a competitive target of 181, the team recovered brilliantly from a first-ball setback before completing the chase with more than two overs remaining.
The victory was built around a breathtaking innings from Dev Lakra, whose aggressive stroke play shifted the momentum decisively in Purani Dilli 6’s favour. Captain Anuj Rawat then displayed composure and experience with an unbeaten innings to ensure there were no late hiccups as his side crossed the finish line comfortably.
Ankit Kumar Shines with Brilliant 86 for West Delhi Lions
Earlier, West Delhi Lions posted a challenging total of 180/6 in their allotted 20 overs after winning the opportunity to bat first. Their innings revolved around a magnificent knock from opener Ankit Kumar, who smashed 86 runs from just 45 deliveries.
Ankit looked in complete control from the outset, mixing elegant timing with powerful stroke-making. He found regular boundaries and punished anything loose, giving his team the ideal platform for a big total.
His opening partner Krish Yadav played an equally valuable supporting role. The pair stitched together a superb 90-run partnership for the opening wicket, putting immense pressure on the Purani Dilli 6 bowling attack during the powerplay.
Krish contributed a steady 43 runs from 31 balls before he was eventually dismissed. His departure provided Purani Dilli 6 with a much-needed breakthrough after the Lions’ dominant start.
Middle-Order Struggles Prevent Bigger Total
Although Ankit Kumar continued to score at an impressive rate, West Delhi Lions struggled to build meaningful partnerships once the opening stand was broken.
Regular wickets interrupted their momentum during the middle and death overs, preventing them from accelerating towards a total beyond 180. While Ankit continued attacking the bowlers, the lack of sustained support from the other batters meant the innings lost some of its early intensity.
Purani Dilli 6’s bowlers maintained discipline during the closing stages and ensured that the opposition could not fully capitalize on their strong foundation.
Among the bowlers, Pankaj Jaswal delivered the most effective spell. He returned figures of 2 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs, providing timely breakthroughs that helped contain the scoring rate. The remaining bowlers also contributed with important wickets at regular intervals to keep the Lions under pressure.
Early Blow Fails to Shake Purani Dilli 6

The chase began in dramatic fashion as Purani Dilli 6 lost opener Rohan Rana on the very first ball of the innings.
Despite the disastrous start, there was no sign of panic in the batting lineup. Samarth Seth and Dev Lakra quickly steadied the innings with positive intent while ensuring the required run rate remained under control.
The pair constructed a crucial 94-run partnership for the second wicket, gradually shifting the pressure back onto West Delhi Lions.
Dev Lakra’s Fearless Knock Changes the Match
Dev Lakra emerged as the standout performer of the evening with an electrifying innings that completely transformed the contest.
The right-hander hammered 64 runs from only 33 deliveries, entertaining the crowd with fearless stroke play. His innings included four boundaries and six massive sixes, as he attacked both pace and spin with equal confidence.

At the other end, Samarth Seth played the perfect supporting role. His patient 30 runs from 29 balls allowed Lakra the freedom to dominate while maintaining stability after the early wicket.
Anuj Rawat Finishes the Job in Style
Following Lakra’s dismissal, captain Anuj Rawat took complete charge of the innings with a mature and unbeaten performance.
Rawat remained not out on 49 from just 26 deliveries, combining controlled aggression with intelligent shot selection. His calm approach ensured there was no opportunity for West Delhi Lions to stage a comeback.
He found an ideal partner in Lalit Yadav, who contributed a quickfire unbeaten 30 from only 17 balls. Together, the duo shared an unbroken partnership that guided Purani Dilli 6 to victory with seven wickets in hand and more than two overs remaining.
Their clinical finish highlighted the batting depth and confidence within the Purani Dilli 6 lineup, making it one of the most convincing successful chases of the DPL 2026 season so far.
Strong Statement in DPL 2026
The result gives Purani Dilli 6 valuable momentum in the tournament and underlines their strength in pressure situations. While West Delhi Lions will take positives from Ankit Kumar’s exceptional innings and their impressive opening partnership, they may reflect on missed opportunities in the middle overs and the inability to defend a competitive total.
For Purani Dilli 6, Dev Lakra’s explosive batting, Samarth Seth’s stability, and Anuj Rawat’s composed finishing act combined perfectly to deliver an emphatic victory that will boost confidence as the Delhi Premier League 2026 progresses.
