The Ministry of Ayush is accelerating the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Ayurveda and the wider Ayush sector, building on the digital infrastructure created through Ayush Grid. The emerging AI ecosystem is being developed across healthcare, research, education, information services and investment facilitation, with a focus on making traditional medicine more accessible, evidence-informed and citizen-centric.
The Ministry’s approach combines specialised AI applications with collaborations involving national technology initiatives, creating new opportunities for practitioners, researchers, students, citizens and investors.
AI-Powered Services Expand Across Ayush Grid
Several AI-enabled services are already emerging within the Ayush digital ecosystem. The MAISP Chatbot is designed to provide citizens with conversational access to information related to Ayurveda and other Ayush systems.
For researchers, the ARP Research Assistant uses Generative AI to support navigation of the Ayush Research Portal. The assistant is intended to help users explore Ayurveda and other Ayush literature more efficiently, potentially making large volumes of research information easier to discover.
The eLMS Chatbot introduces AI-supported Student Life Cycle Management for Ayurveda and other Ayush educational institutions. Meanwhile, the e-CHARAK Chatbot connects conversational AI with the medicinal-plant trade ecosystem, supporting information access relevant to the plants that form an important foundation of Ayurvedic pharmacology.
Other applications include Yoga Saarthi, an AI-based yoga recommendation chatbot, and Nivesh Saarthi, which functions as an AI assistant for investment-related information in the Ayush sector.
Together, these initiatives indicate a shift from conventional digital portals towards interactive services capable of responding directly to user queries.
Ayurveda AI Use Case Gains Global Recognition
The Ministry’s AI work also received international visibility through the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026. An AI Impact Casebook on Health, developed in partnership with the World Health Organization, included a dedicated Ministry of Ayush case study titled “AI-driven Decision Support for Ayurveda: A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Approach.”
Retrieval-Augmented Generation combines generative AI with information retrieved from defined knowledge sources. In the Ayurveda context, this approach can support more structured access to relevant knowledge while helping users navigate specialised information.
The inclusion of an Ayurveda-focused use case in an international health AI casebook highlights the growing intersection between traditional medicine, digital technologies and responsible artificial intelligence.
IndiaAI Innovation Challenge Targets Healthcare Needs
The Ministry is also participating in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge to encourage the development of AI solutions specifically relevant to the Ayush sector.
Among the identified applications are voice-enabled Electronic Health Records, disease-trend detection and personalised treatment-support solutions. These technologies are being explored with the broader objective of strengthening healthcare delivery, improving clinical insights and supporting more patient-centric services.
The potential applications span multiple stages of healthcare, from collecting and organising patient information to identifying patterns and supporting healthcare professionals with relevant insights.
WHO, ITU and WIPO Highlight AI in Traditional Medicine
The international discussion around AI and traditional medicine is also expanding. On July 11, 2025, the World Health Organization, International Telecommunication Union and World Intellectual Property Organization jointly released a technical brief titled “Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine.”
The document examines potential applications of AI in traditional medicine while emphasising the importance of responsible, evidence-informed and culturally appropriate approaches.

For Ayurveda and other traditional medical systems, such principles are particularly relevant because digital technologies must work alongside established bodies of knowledge while maintaining appropriate standards for evidence, safety and cultural context.
IndiaAI and Bhashini Strengthen Digital Reach
The Ministry of Ayush has collaborated with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The collaboration opens avenues for work involving artificial intelligence, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing.
Ayush-related artefacts are also available through AI Kosh, supporting broader access for AI research and development in Ayurveda and other Ayush domains.
The partnership with Bhashini has further expanded linguistic accessibility. Ayush Grid portals serving practitioners, students and citizens are now available in 22 scheduled Indian languages, helping extend digital services across the country’s diverse linguistic landscape.
Technology Designed to Strengthen Traditional Knowledge
The Ministry’s AI strategy reflects a broader digital transformation of Ayurveda and the Ayush ecosystem. Rather than positioning technology as a substitute for traditional knowledge, the emerging model seeks to use AI to organise, connect and amplify existing knowledge resources.
AI assistants, multilingual platforms, research tools and decision-support applications could make Ayush information easier to discover and access for different user groups.
As these initiatives develop, their effectiveness will depend on responsible deployment, reliable knowledge sources, appropriate safeguards and continued attention to evidence-based practices. The expansion of AI within Ayush therefore represents not simply a technological upgrade, but an effort to build a more connected digital ecosystem for Ayurveda and traditional medicine in India and beyond.
