Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has secured a renewed mandate after his ruling Civil Contract Party emerged victorious in the country’s parliamentary elections, a result widely viewed as an endorsement of Armenia’s growing engagement with Europe and its efforts to reduce dependence on Russia. Preliminary and official election results showed the governing party winning nearly half of the popular vote, allowing it to retain control of the government and continue its current political course.
According to Armenia’s Central Election Commission, Civil Contract received about 49.8 percent of the vote, comfortably ahead of the opposition Strong Armenia alliance, which secured a little over 23 percent. The outcome positions Pashinyan to remain the dominant political figure in the South Caucasus nation and continue pursuing his agenda of political reform, regional peace, and closer ties with Western institutions.

Despite securing a significant share of the vote, the alliance fell well short of challenging Civil Contract’s lead. International reactions began pouring in soon after the results became clear. Among the first global leaders to congratulate Pashinyan was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the Armenian leader and welcomed the renewed mandate received by his party.

The election result is expected to strengthen Pashinyan’s position as he navigates a complex regional environment marked by security concerns, economic challenges, and ongoing negotiations with neighboring countries. While his government now enjoys another parliamentary mandate, analysts note that important issues such as constitutional reforms, regional peace agreements, and economic modernization will remain key challenges in the years ahead.
