Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the youth of India through the Khelo India Dialogue on August 27, placing young people and their aspirations at the centre of the country’s sporting and development journey. The Prime Minister will interact with participants through video conferencing at 11 am as part of the National Sports Day 2026 celebrations.
Organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), the nationwide initiative is designed to create a powerful platform where young Indians can discuss sports, leadership, civic responsibility, volunteering, fitness and the broader vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The programme will be conducted with youth participation at two colleges in every district across States and Union Territories, giving young people from different parts of the country an opportunity to become part of a national conversation on India’s sporting future.
Khelo India Dialogue Puts Youth at the Centre
The Khelo India Dialogue is being organised with the broader objective of encouraging a fit, disciplined and sporting nation. Rather than limiting the programme to discussions about competitive sports, the initiative seeks to connect sporting participation with leadership, community engagement and national development.

The programme will provide young participants with an opportunity to share their ideas and aspirations while engaging with India’s evolving sports ecosystem. Local-level interactions will follow the national programme, bringing together youth participants, MY Bharat volunteers, sportspersons and public representatives.
A major attraction will be interaction between young people interested in sports and leading Indian athletes and medal winners. This engagement is expected to give aspiring athletes an opportunity to learn from established sporting personalities while discussing the challenges and opportunities facing India’s next generation of sports talent.
Five Key Themes to Shape Yuva Samvaad
A central component of the initiative will be Yuva Samvaad, where young participants will be encouraged to express their perspectives, ambitions and ideas for the country.
The dialogue will focus on five major themes that connect sports with youth empowerment and national progress.
The first theme will focus on strengthening India’s sports ecosystem through improved infrastructure, better coaching, sports science and wider participation. The objective is to create an environment where talented athletes can receive the facilities, training and scientific support required to compete at the highest levels.
The second theme will address India’s Olympic aspirations, particularly the preparation of athletes for the 2036 Olympics. Discussions will focus on scientific talent identification, transparent selection procedures and long-term athlete development.
The third theme will concentrate on youth leadership. Through governance platforms and MY Bharat-led volunteering opportunities, young Indians will be encouraged to take a more active role in community and nation-building activities.
The fourth theme will focus on Viksit Bharat, highlighting civic-mindedness, future-ready skills and structured volunteering as important elements of youth development.
The fifth theme will promote the vision of a Nasha Mukt Yuva, encouraging young people to use sports, peer networks and community participation as tools to combat substance abuse.
Strong Push for India’s 2036 Olympic Dream
India’s sporting ambitions will be a major focus of the dialogue. The government has increasingly emphasised the need to identify sporting talent early, develop athletes scientifically and create a stronger ecosystem capable of supporting India’s long-term Olympic ambitions.
The 2036 Olympics theme is therefore expected to resonate strongly with young participants. By bringing aspiring athletes into direct conversations with experienced sportspersons, the programme seeks to connect ambition with practical guidance and long-term preparation.
The focus on transparent selection and sustained athlete development also reflects the need to build a credible sporting pipeline capable of producing champions across disciplines.
Sports Linked to Youth Leadership and Nation-Building
The Khelo India Dialogue goes beyond medals and sporting performance. Its broader message is that sports can become a powerful instrument for discipline, teamwork, confidence and social responsibility.

Through volunteering and civic participation, the initiative aims to encourage young Indians to contribute beyond the sporting arena. MY Bharat is expected to play a significant role in connecting youth with opportunities for leadership and community service.
The government has also been expanding youth engagement through MY Bharat. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, more than 2.46 crore young people were registered on the MY Bharat digital platform as of August 2026.
Nasha Mukt Yuva Campaign Gets Sporting Push
The anti-drug message will form another important part of the dialogue. The Nasha Mukt Yuva theme seeks to use sports and peer networks to encourage young people to reject substance abuse.
The initiative will be reinforced through weekly Jan Bhagidari activities under the Prime Minister’s 100-week nationwide campaign launched on August 2, 2026. The campaign aims to build wider community participation in the fight against substance abuse.
By connecting sports with health, discipline and social responsibility, the Khelo India Dialogue is positioned as a broader youth movement rather than simply a sporting event.
Nationwide Youth Participation
The nationwide format of the programme is expected to give young people across States and Union Territories a common platform to voice their concerns and aspirations.
With participation planned at two colleges in every district, the initiative seeks to bring the national sports conversation closer to young people at the grassroots level. The involvement of local athletes, MY Bharat volunteers and public representatives will further strengthen the connection between national objectives and local communities.
Prime Minister Modi’s address on August 27 will therefore serve as the national focal point of an initiative that seeks to combine India’s sporting ambitions with youth leadership, fitness, volunteering and social responsibility.
As India looks towards the 2036 Olympics and the larger goal of Viksit Bharat, the Khelo India Dialogue places a powerful message at its core: the country’s future sporting success and national progress will depend heavily on the energy, talent and determination of its youth.
