Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess the national capital’s drinking water supply situation and preparedness for the peak summer season. During the meeting, she instructed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure that residents do not face disruptions in water availability as temperatures continue to rise.
The Chief Minister reviewed the functioning of water treatment plants, tanker deployment systems and emergency response mechanisms. She emphasized that uninterrupted access to drinking water remains a top priority for the government and directed departments to remain on alert in areas that traditionally face supply shortages during summer.
Senior officials from the Delhi government and the Delhi Jal Board participated in the meeting, where the status of ongoing water management projects and contingency plans was discussed. Gupta stressed that public complaints related to water supply should be addressed without delay and warned that negligence in handling grievances would not be tolerated.
According to officials, the government has increased operational capacity at several levels to meet rising demand. Water treatment facilities across Delhi have been instructed to function at maximum capacity, while monitoring systems have been strengthened to maintain a balanced supply network throughout the city.
The review also focused on water-scarce localities where additional arrangements have been put in place. Authorities have expanded the number of operational tubewells and water tankers to improve supply in vulnerable areas. Several constituencies with a history of summer shortages are receiving special attention through targeted deployment of resources and constituency-level planning.
To strengthen emergency response, round-the-clock water emergency centres have been activated at multiple locations across the city. These centres are expected to coordinate rapid action in case of supply disruptions and help residents report issues more effectively. Officials informed the Chief Minister that helplines and complaint-monitoring systems are being closely supervised to ensure faster resolution of public concerns.
Gupta also reviewed long-term infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving Delhi’s water distribution network. These include pipeline upgrades, maintenance of reservoirs, cleaning of sewer lines and measures to reduce leakages. Officials said preventive maintenance work has been carried out at several facilities ahead of the summer season to minimize the risk of breakdowns.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government’s objective is not only to manage immediate summer demand but also to create durable solutions for recurring water-related challenges in the capital. She said coordinated efforts across departments would be necessary to ensure efficient delivery of services and improve water management in the long run.
The review meeting comes amid increasing concerns over water demand in Delhi during the summer months. With temperatures remaining high, the government has intensified monitoring and preparedness measures to ensure residents receive an adequate supply of drinking water without major disruptions.
