The nationwide debate over examination reforms took a fresh turn on Thursday after senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi voiced concern over the police action against students protesting alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. Calling for restraint, Joshi said the grievances of young aspirants should be heard with empathy instead of being met with force.
His statement came amid continuing demonstrations in the national capital, where students have been demanding greater transparency in the examination system and strict action against those responsible for paper leaks and other alleged irregularities.
‘Students Should Be Heard, Not Silenced’
Expressing concern over the handling of the protests, Joshi said the issue should not be viewed merely from a law-and-order perspective. He stressed that the students were raising legitimate concerns about their future and deserved a patient hearing.
«“The students have been sitting on the streets for several days with genuine concerns. Their issues must be heard with sensitivity and resolved through dialogue,” Joshi said.»
He also expressed anguish over reports that women protesters were allegedly mistreated during the demonstrations.
“It is painful to hear that young girls were handled in such a manner. Such incidents have no place in a democracy,” he remarked.
