NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has rolled out an official WhatsApp communication channel for students appearing in the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, a move aimed at strengthening transparency and protecting candidates from misinformation ahead of one of India’s most important entrance tests.
The agency announced that candidates will now receive verified updates through WhatsApp, SMS and email instead of relying on unverified social media forwards or unofficial groups. The decision comes amid growing concerns over fake paper leak claims, fraudulent messages and scam networks targeting anxious students and parents before the re-test.
The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to take place on June 21 after the original examination was cancelled following allegations of irregularities and an ongoing investigation into the matter. Since then, authorities have been introducing several measures to restore confidence in the examination system.
According to NTA, students must trust only official communication channels and remain cautious about any message claiming guaranteed success, leaked question papers or special access to exam content. The agency stressed that no individual, institution or online platform has access to the question paper before the examination.
The verified WhatsApp account will carry a blue tick and operate under the official National Testing Agency identity. Authorities said this initiative has been introduced to ensure students receive authentic information directly without depending on rumours circulating online.
NTA also clarified that admit cards, examination schedules and official notices will be released only through its authorised platforms. Students have been advised not to download files or click on suspicious links shared through unknown numbers or social media channels.
Key instructions issued by NTA for students:
• Verify every communication: Check whether messages originate from official NTA channels before acting upon them.
• Ignore paper leak claims: Any message offering leaked papers, guaranteed ranks or advance access is fraudulent.
• Avoid financial transactions: Students should never pay money to individuals or groups promising exam assistance or confidential material.
• Download documents only from official websites: Admit cards and examination-related documents will not be distributed through unofficial links.
• Report suspicious activities: Candidates can alert authorities about fake websites, impersonators and scam networks.
In recent days, NTA has intensified its crackdown on misinformation campaigns. Dedicated reporting platforms have been launched to help students report suspicious websites, social media pages and messaging groups claiming to possess leaked examination papers.
The agency has also warned that cybercriminals are exploiting students’ anxiety by creating fake proof videos, fabricated screenshots and misleading advertisements. Officials have stated that such activities are punishable offences and strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
Apart from security measures, NTA has also been focusing on student welfare. The agency recently introduced mental health support initiatives and advised candidates to remain calm, avoid panic and trust their preparation instead of being distracted by rumours.
Authorities have repeatedly emphasised that maintaining the integrity of the examination remains their top priority. Enhanced monitoring systems, stricter protocols and better communication mechanisms are being implemented to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
Education experts believe the official WhatsApp initiative could significantly reduce confusion among candidates by providing instant and authentic updates. In recent years, misinformation spread through messaging platforms has become a major challenge during large-scale competitive examinations.
For lakhs of aspiring medical students across India, the message from NTA is straightforward: trust only verified sources, ignore rumours and focus entirely on exam preparation. As the June 21 re-examination approaches, authorities are hoping that stronger digital safeguards will help conduct a secure and credible test without further disruptions.
