Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it carried out a fresh round of retaliatory strikes targeting American military assets at Jordan’s Aqaba Airport, alleging that at least two US military aircraft were destroyed and several others damaged. The announcement came in a statement issued early Monday, in which the IRGC said the operation formed part of the 21st wave of its ongoing military campaign, referred to as Operation Nasr-2.
According to the IRGC, its Aerospace Force launched ballistic missiles at what it described as US military positions at Aqaba Airport after receiving intelligence from individuals inside Jordan. The Iranian military claimed that the strikes destroyed a C-17 military transport aircraft and a P-8 surveillance and command aircraft, while three additional military aircraft were also reportedly destroyed and several others sustained significant damage.
The claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate confirmation from the United States or Jordanian authorities regarding the reported attack or the alleged destruction of military aircraft.
Iran links operation to earlier attacks and regional conflict
The IRGC said the latest operation was dedicated to Iranian civilians killed during what it referred to as the “Third Imposed War on Iran.” The statement expressed appreciation to individuals in Jordan who allegedly shared intelligence that enabled the missile strike.
Iran also claimed that intelligence gathered earlier had helped its forces launch missile attacks on US military positions in Jordan’s Al-Azraq region. According to the IRGC, those earlier strikes resulted in the destruction of multiple military shelters and caused casualties among American personnel. These claims also remain unverified by independent sources.
The Iranian military further stated that it had conducted another surprise attack targeting what it described as an enemy special operations command center in Syria’s Al-Tanf region. According to the IRGC, the operation was carried out in response to the deaths of Iranian soldiers and resulted in the destruction of radar systems and several helicopters, along with casualties among US forces. No official confirmation has been issued by the US military regarding those allegations.
Strait of Hormuz and oil tanker claims raise regional concerns
In its statement, the IRGC also asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains under the control of Iran’s Armed Forces. It warned that exports of oil and natural gas through the strategic waterway would not be allowed if what it described as continued US military actions against Iran persisted.
The IRGC further claimed that two oil tankers had exploded and become immobilized after navigating what it called an unsafe route through the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials alleged that the vessels had been encouraged by the US military to use the route despite the risks.
No independent evidence has been presented to support those claims, and there were no immediate reports from international shipping authorities confirming explosions involving commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait remains one of the world’s most important maritime corridors, carrying a significant share of global crude oil exports. Any reported disruption in the area typically draws close attention from international markets and governments due to its impact on global energy supplies.
