NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy once again demonstrated its rapid-response capability after frontline warship INS Trikand swiftly responded to a distress call from merchant vessel MV Fareeda 5 following a suspected piracy threat in the Western Indian Ocean. The operation, conducted on June 17, ensured the safety of the vessel and highlighted India’s growing role as a key maritime security provider in the region.
According to the Indian Navy, INS Trikand, a mission-deployed stealth frigate operating in the region, was immediately tasked to investigate the situation after receiving information about a possible piracy attempt targeting MV Fareeda 5.

During that mission, the destroyer deployed its onboard helicopter and boarding teams to inspect the situation and deter potential attackers. The intervention successfully prevented a possible piracy incident and safeguarded the commercial vessel.
The repeated deployments indicate that piracy threats continue to persist despite international efforts to secure the region.
INS Trikand
INS Trikand is one of the Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigates and has been actively participating in maritime security operations across the Indian Ocean Region.
The vessel has also undertaken several international deployments, joint exercises and strategic port visits in countries including Mauritius, Seychelles, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya during 2026.
