NEW DELHI: India has issued a precautionary advisory directing shipping companies, ship managers and recruitment agencies to avoid deploying Indian seafarers on vessels that are scheduled to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. The move comes amid worsening security conditions in the Gulf region following a series of attacks on commercial ships that have raised concerns over the safety of maritime crews.
India Issues Temporary Advisory
The advisory has been issued by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), asking ship owners, operators and Recruitment and Placement Service Licence (RPSL) companies to refrain from assigning Indian crew members to ships travelling through the strategically important waterway until further notice.
Officials described the measure as a precaution aimed at protecting Indian nationals working in one of the world’s busiest and most sensitive maritime corridors. The directive will remain in force until the government assesses that the security situation has improved.
