NEW DELHI: Highlighting India’s growing stature on the global stage, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the country has transformed into a trusted first responder and a reliable partner for nations in times of crisis under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Marking 12 years of the Modi government at the Centre, Shah said India’s foreign policy has evolved into a model that combines national strength with a commitment to global welfare. He noted that over the past decade, India has significantly expanded its role in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, healthcare support, and international cooperation.
According to Shah, India has consistently stepped forward to assist countries affected by natural disasters, humanitarian emergencies, and geopolitical conflicts. From providing relief materials and food assistance to deploying rescue operations and medical aid, the country has earned recognition as a dependable first responder on the global stage.
India’s humanitarian outreach has also included large-scale evacuation missions to bring citizens home safely from conflict-hit regions. The government has undertaken several rescue operations over the years, ensuring the safety of Indian nationals while extending support to people of other countries whenever required.
The Home Minister emphasized that India’s contribution extends beyond emergency response. Through initiatives such as the supply of food grains during crises, distribution of essential medicines, and the export of Made-in-India vaccines under humanitarian programmes, the country has strengthened its reputation as a force for global good.
He said India’s diplomatic approach today reflects confidence, capability, and responsibility. Whether through advocacy for developing nations, leadership in climate action, or promotion of digital public infrastructure, India has increasingly positioned itself as a constructive global partner.
Shah pointed out that India has become a prominent voice for the Global South, representing the concerns and aspirations of developing countries in international forums. He also highlighted India’s efforts in promoting sustainable development and renewable energy through global initiatives aimed at addressing climate challenges.
The Home Minister said the spirit of service and compassion has remained a defining feature of India’s foreign policy over the past 12 years. Humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, medical support, and international cooperation have demonstrated the country’s commitment to helping nations in need.
Reflecting on the domestic achievements of the Modi government, Shah recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed one year of his third consecutive term on June 9. In a post on X, he described the last 12 years as a period of unprecedented development combined with extensive welfare measures.
He said that under Modi’s leadership, the government has worked to improve the lives of millions through various flagship schemes and infrastructure projects. According to Shah, free food grain support has been provided to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries, while more than 90 airports and over 140 Vande Bharat trains have been introduced across the country.
The government has also facilitated the construction of more than four crore permanent houses for economically weaker families and expanded the road network by approximately 1.45 lakh kilometres. In addition, over 3,000 kilometres of modern expressways have been developed to improve connectivity and boost economic growth.
Shah further highlighted the expansion of social welfare programmes, noting that health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh has been extended to around 50 crore citizens. More than 10 crore households have also received LPG connections under government initiatives aimed at improving living standards.
He said India’s rapid economic progress has positioned it as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. The Home Minister credited this transformation to decisive leadership, clear policy direction, and a commitment to national development.
“Such a transformation is possible only when leadership has a clear vision, places national interest above all else, and works with complete dedication,” Shah said.
As India marks 12 years under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government has projected the country’s rise as both a growing economic power and a dependable partner for the international community, reinforcing its image as a nation that responds with compassion and leadership during times of need.
