NEW DELHI: In a major operation against the illegal arms trade, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a 21-year-old interstate arms supplier and recovered five sophisticated illegal pistols from his possession. The accused, identified as Nikhil, a resident of New Kondli in East Delhi, was allegedly involved in procuring firearms from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them across Delhi-NCR and Haryana.

The arrest was made on May 22, 2026, as part of an intensified crackdown on the growing circulation of illegal weapons and the rise in gun-related crimes in the National Capital Region. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Special Cell had been monitoring firearm trafficking networks operating from Madhya Pradesh, particularly from the Khargone region, which has emerged as a key source of illegal weapons entering northern India.

According to police officials, the Special Cell’s Northern Range received credible information that Nikhil would arrive near the Helipad in Sector 36, Rohini, around 2:30 pm to deliver a consignment of illegal firearms to a contact. After verifying the information, a special team was formed under the supervision of senior officers, including ACP Rahul Kumar Singh. The operation was led by Inspector Rakesh Kumar and involved extensive surveillance and strategic deployment around the suspected delivery point.

As the accused reached the designated location, police personnel intercepted him and conducted a search of his belongings. During the search, five illegal pistols were recovered from a bag he was carrying. He was immediately taken into custody.

Following the recovery, Delhi Police registered a case under FIR No. 134/2026 under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at the Special Cell Police Station. Investigators are now working to trace the source of the seized firearms, identify the intended buyers, and expose the wider interstate network involved in arms trafficking.

Police sources revealed that the accused had allegedly been sourcing weapons from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them to criminal elements operating in Delhi-NCR and Haryana. Officials believe the arrest could help uncover several links connected to the illegal arms supply chain.

During interrogation, it emerged that Nikhil comes from a modest family background. His father works as a driver, while his mother is employed as a cleaner at a private company. His elder brother works as an air-conditioner mechanic, and his younger brother is a student. Police said the accused was unemployed and had recently been released on bail in April 2026.

Investigators also found that Nikhil has a criminal history and was previously involved in multiple cases registered in Delhi. These include cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. His past cases were registered at Ghazipur and New Ashok Nagar police stations.

Delhi Police stated that the operation is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle interstate criminal networks engaged in the illegal manufacture, transportation, and distribution of firearms. Officials said continuous surveillance and intelligence gathering have helped the Special Cell identify and neutralize several such modules in recent months.

The arrest highlights the persistent challenge posed by illegal arms trafficking networks operating across state borders. Weapons sourced from regions known for illicit firearm manufacturing often find their way into major cities, where they are used in robberies, gang rivalries, extortion, and other violent crimes. By intercepting suppliers before weapons reach end users, law enforcement agencies can prevent potential criminal incidents and disrupt larger networks.

The recovery of five pistols and the arrest of an alleged supplier represent a significant step in Delhi Police’s efforts to curb the flow of illegal firearms into Delhi-NCR and neighboring states. Further investigation may reveal additional members of the syndicate and lead to more arrests in the coming weeks.
