The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), has launched CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad, an AI-enabled document translation solution designed to support the translation of official CAG documents and audit-related reports.

The solution was unveiled during the closing ceremony of Hindi Diwas and Hindi Pakhwada 2026 at the CAG Office in New Delhi, marking a significant step towards integrating multilingual Language AI into government institutional workflows.

AI-powered translation for CAG documents

CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad has been developed as a customised Language AI solution for the CAG. It is intended to assist officials in translating government and audit-related documents while maintaining consistency in terminology and improving contextual translation.

The system is designed to complement existing institutional processes rather than replace human expertise. Human oversight remains an important part of the workflow, particularly for official documents where accuracy, context and terminology are critical.

The solution also focuses on institutional requirements such as controlled access, security and data sovereignty, providing an AI-enabled environment tailored to the needs of the audit institution.

CAG highlights wider access to audit information

The launch was attended by K. Sanjay Murthy, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, along with senior CAG officials, including Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General A. M. Bajaj, Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General Dr. Nilotpal Goswami, Director General Atoorva Sinha, and other officials and dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, Murthy highlighted the importance of ensuring that audit findings and reports are accessible to citizens in languages they can understand.

He underlined the potential of technology to make audit-related information available in local and regional languages while supporting the wider use of Hindi and other Indian languages in official work.

BHASHINI expands India’s Language AI ecosystem

During the event, Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, outlined the evolution of BHASHINI’s Language AI ecosystem, covering language data, AI models, applications and emerging use cases.

According to the information presented at the event, BHASHINI currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages.

Its technology is being applied across an expanding range of public-service applications, including multilingual agricultural advisory services, voice-enabled grievance registration and processing, and conversational services accessible through voice and telephone-based interfaces.

Nag also highlighted the development of a sovereign Language AI ecosystem designed to address India’s extensive linguistic diversity.

Technology meets Hindi Pakhwada activities

The partnership between CAG and BHASHINI also extended to Hindi Pakhwada 2026, organised form September 14 to 29.

Alongside traditional Hindi language activities, the programme introduced technology-enabled activities and games developed with BHASHINI. These initiatives provided CAG officers and employees with opportunities to experience language technology through interactive activities.

A large number of officials and employees participated in competitions covering areas such as official language usage, Hindi noting and drafting, translation, typing and other language-related skills.

Winners were felicitated during the closing ceremony, with awards and certificates presented in recognition of their participation and performance.

CAG-BHASHINI collaboration strengthens multilingual governance

Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (Rajbhasha) Dr. Nilotpal Goswami said the convergence of artificial intelligence and communication could help overcome linguistic barriers across geographical regions.

He noted that integrating language technology into institutional processes could make communication more accessible, timely and effective while strengthening the use of Indian languages in governance and official work.

The collaboration demonstrates how Language AI can extend beyond document translation to support interactive language engagement within government institutions.

Towards wider access to official information

The launch of CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad represents a broader effort to integrate multilingual AI capabilities into established government systems.

By combining AI-based translation, institutional expertise and human oversight, the initiative aims to facilitate wider access to official and audit-related information across Indian languages.

BHASHINI, India’s national platform for AI-powered multilingual digital inclusion, currently powers more than 800 government websites, has enabled over 9 billion cumulative AI inferences, and processes more than 24 million AI inferences daily, according to the information shared by the organisation.

The CAG-BHASHINI collaboration therefore marks another application of India’s expanding Language AI infrastructure, with a focus on making government communication more multilingual, accessible and efficient.
