Around 15,000 Delhi Police personnel, along with 200 companies of paramilitary forces, are being deployed across the city as authorities establish a multi-layered security network for the international gathering.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. Security and traffic arrangements linked to the movement of foreign dignitaries are expected to remain in place from September 10 through approximately September 14, making the period one of the most closely monitored stretches for security agencies in the capital.
15,000 Delhi Police Personnel Mobilised
Delhi Police has prepared an extensive deployment plan covering law and order, traffic management and protection of important locations. The force will be supported by 200 companies of paramilitary personnel, creating a substantial security presence across different parts of the national capital.
Special Commissioner of Police Manish Kumar Agrawal said the arrangements were designed to provide maximum security to visiting dignitaries while causing minimum inconvenience to residents and commuters. Police have also issued advance advisories regarding traffic arrangements so that the public can plan their movement during the summit period.
Bharat Mandapam Under Multi-Layered Security
Bharat Mandapam, the principal venue of the BRICS Summit, will remain at the centre of the security operation. Authorities have introduced enhanced access control, heightened vigilance and other robust security measures around the venue.
The multi-layered approach is intended to ensure that different aspects of security are monitored simultaneously, with agencies maintaining close coordination throughout the summit. Police officials have also carried out extensive surveys of identified routes that may be used by visiting leaders and official delegations.
The security plan extends beyond the summit venue. Delhi Police said arrangements will cover the airport, hotels and other locations that foreign dignitaries may visit, including places that could be added to their schedules at short notice.

Coordination among security agencies has been placed at the heart of the preparedness plan. According to Delhi Police, intelligence inputs will be shared and coordinated among the agencies concerned, with available information being analysed as part of the overall security assessment.
Neighbouring states have also been brought into the coordination mechanism. Meetings have been held with authorities in adjoining states to ensure smoother coordination when dignitaries travel through different jurisdictions.
Such coordination is particularly important during an international summit, when movements of senior foreign leaders require close cooperation between multiple security and law-enforcement agencies.

The heightened security arrangements are expected to have an impact on traffic in the capital. Restrictions associated with the movement of foreign delegations and dignitaries are scheduled to begin on September 10 and are expected to continue until around September 14.
