The political and diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh have intensified after former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed a media gathering from New Delhi. Bangladesh strongly condemned the event, describing it as an “affront to its sovereignty” and warning that such developments could negatively impact bilateral relations.
The controversy erupted after Hasina, who has been living in India since leaving Bangladesh following the 2024 political upheaval, delivered a public address in which she criticised Bangladesh’s current leadership, defended her Awami League party, and reiterated her intention to return to the country.
Bangladesh Registers Strong Diplomatic Protest
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed sharp disappointment over the event, stating that allowing Sheikh Hasina to deliver a political address from Indian soil violated the principles of mutual respect, sovereignty and non-interference.
