The Union Education Ministry has stepped up efforts to strengthen the National Testing Agency (NTA) examination system, with a major focus on security, infrastructure, question-paper scrutiny and manpower. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements are put in place for the smooth and secure conduct of examinations.
The directions were issued during a follow-up meeting on the functioning of the NTA, where senior officials reviewed measures being taken to improve the agency’s examination framework and address operational concerns.
NTA Examination Team Gets Major Overhaul
Following the Education Minister’s directions, the Director General of the NTA briefed the meeting on the steps already taken by the agency.
As part of the restructuring exercise, the NTA has undertaken a major revamp of its examination team. Around 600 experts have been removed from the existing system, while new experts are being brought on board.
The move is aimed at strengthening the agency’s internal examination mechanisms and ensuring that qualified and experienced personnel are involved in critical stages of the examination process.
The government is also focusing on further strengthening the NTA’s manpower. According to the action plan reviewed during the meeting, around 20 to 25 officials are expected to be inducted into the agency over the next two to three weeks.
A further recruitment and induction plan was also examined to ensure that the agency has adequate manpower to handle its growing responsibilities.
Four-Tier Question Paper Checking System
One of the key reforms discussed during the meeting is the introduction of a four-tier question paper checking mechanism.
Under the proposed system, examination papers will undergo multiple levels of scrutiny before being finalised. The objective is to strengthen quality control and reduce the possibility of errors, inconsistencies or lapses during the preparation of question papers.
The multi-layered review process is expected to provide an additional safeguard in the examination system by ensuring that question papers are examined more thoroughly before they reach candidates.
The move assumes significance as the government seeks to restore confidence in the national examination framework and make the process more robust, transparent and secure.
NTA Offices to Shift to New Premises
The government is also accelerating the shifting of NTA offices to new premises.
Officials have been directed to complete the relocation process on a “war footing”, indicating that the exercise will be carried out on an urgent basis. Security arrangements at the new premises will also be strengthened.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be deployed to reinforce security at the new NTA facilities. The enhanced security infrastructure is intended to protect sensitive examination-related operations and improve the overall safety of the agency’s premises.
The presence of dedicated security personnel is expected to strengthen access control and security protocols around critical examination activities.
Focus on Secure and Smooth Examinations
The latest measures form part of a broader effort by the Education Ministry to improve the functioning of the NTA and ensure that examinations are conducted without disruptions.
The ministry’s review has placed particular emphasis on three areas—human resources, examination processes and physical security. The restructuring of the examination team is aimed at improving professional capacity, while the four-tier checking system is intended to strengthen the quality and reliability of question papers.
At the same time, the proposed relocation and enhanced security arrangements are expected to provide a more secure operational environment for the agency.
Government Pushes for Stronger Examination System
The latest review reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening India’s national examination infrastructure. With several major entrance and eligibility examinations conducted through the NTA, the agency plays a crucial role in the country’s education system.
The induction of new officials, restructuring of examination teams, additional scrutiny of question papers and stronger physical security are expected to collectively improve the agency’s preparedness.
