Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has reiterated that Tehran will not approve any agreement with the United States unless the country’s rights and interests are fully secured through concrete and verifiable outcomes. His remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic discussions and renewed debate over Iran’s future engagement with Western powers.
Addressing lawmakers during a virtual session marking the beginning of the third year of Iran’s 12th Parliament on Sunday, Ghalibaf emphasized that Iranian negotiators remain deeply skeptical of commitments made by adversarial nations. He said the country’s diplomatic strategy is based on practical achievements rather than assurances or verbal commitments.
According to Ghalibaf, any future agreement will be judged solely on the basis of benefits delivered to the Iranian people. He stressed that Iran would fulfill its obligations only after receiving clear and measurable gains in return. Until the nation’s rights are guaranteed, he said, no agreement would receive approval from Tehran.
The parliamentary session also carried a strong emotional tone as lawmakers reflected on the loss of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Ghalibaf described the nation as still grieving the death of the long-serving leader, who he said played a central role in shaping modern Iran and strengthening its independence over nearly four decades.
Paying tribute to Khamenei’s legacy, the parliament speaker credited him with guiding the country through major challenges and laying the foundation for what he described as a strong and self-reliant Iran. He argued that recent demonstrations of military strength and national unity were rooted in the leadership and strategic vision developed during Khamenei’s tenure.
Ghalibaf also expressed appreciation for a recent message delivered by Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, describing it as an important source of guidance for lawmakers and a roadmap for the future direction of the parliament. He said representatives would follow the strategic principles outlined in the message while addressing national priorities.
Highlighting Iran’s military capabilities, Ghalibaf stated that recent achievements by the country’s armed forces were made possible through public support and national solidarity. However, he noted that military successes alone are not sufficient and must be translated into political, legal, and diplomatic gains that serve the broader interests of the nation.
The speaker urged government institutions to focus on improving living conditions and addressing economic challenges facing ordinary citizens. He said the achievements gained in various sectors should ultimately be used to solve public problems and strengthen national development.
His comments reflect Iran’s continuing insistence on a results-oriented approach to international negotiations. Tehran has repeatedly maintained that trust in foreign promises is limited and that future agreements must provide clear guarantees and practical benefits.
