NEW DELHI: Veteran social activist Anna Hazare on Thursday launched a ‘Maun Andolan’ (silent protest) in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, expressing solidarity with students protesting over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The symbolic demonstration comes amid growing public concern over transparency, fairness, and accountability in the country’s examination system.
Anna Hazare, known for leading several nationwide anti-corruption campaigns, observed the silent protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Ahilyanagar. The protest began at around 11 am and continued for nearly two hours before he returned to his native village, Ralegan Siddhi. Supporters and local citizens gathered peacefully, backing his call for reforms and justice for students.
Support for Students’ Movement
Anna Hazare said the students’ agitation should not be viewed merely as a law-and-order issue but as a reflection of widespread public anxiety over the credibility of examinations.
