Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said the United States and Iran are “getting along very well,” expressing confidence that the ongoing diplomatic engagement could help stabilize relations between the long-time adversaries. He also indicated that discussions related to Iran’s nuclear programme were moving in a positive direction.
“The denuclearization of Iran is moving along well. They’ve had very good meetings, and we’ll see,” Trump told reporters. He further added, “We’re getting along very well,” while noting that Iran has “come a long way.”
Technical talks held in Doha
Trump’s remarks came as U.S. and Iranian officials held another round of indirect technical discussions in Doha, Qatar. According to officials familiar with the negotiations, the talks focused primarily on ensuring the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and working toward a durable ceasefire framework.
The negotiations are being facilitated by Qatar, with Pakistan also playing a mediating role. Diplomatic sources described the meetings as part of broader efforts to reduce regional tensions while exploring mechanisms to prevent future military escalation.
Although Trump’s senior envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner met Qatar’s Prime Minister ahead of the discussions to help prepare the diplomatic groundwork, they did not participate directly in the technical negotiations themselves.
