Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a major development-focused visit to Gujarat and Maharashtra on September 8, 2026, launching and advancing infrastructure projects worth more than ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara before inaugurating the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
PM Modi’s Vadodara Visit to Focus on Major Infrastructure Projects
At around noon, the Prime Minister will lay foundation stones, inaugurate completed works and dedicate several projects to the nation in Vadodara. He will also address a public gathering during the programme.
A major highlight will be the commissioning of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres and involving an investment of more than ₹20,700 crore.
The sections include New Sanand (North)-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-New JNPT. Their operationalisation will provide direct rail connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, supporting faster movement of export-import cargo between industrial centres and ports.
The upgraded freight network is expected to lower logistics expenses, improve supply-chain efficiency and reduce pressure on Mumbai’s railway infrastructure.
With these sections becoming operational, the Dedicated Freight Corridor network will be fully operational along its entire length. The expanded freight infrastructure is expected to improve multimodal connectivity, shorten cargo transit times and enable smoother movement of goods across regions.
New Freight and Passenger Services to Be Flagged Off
During the Vadodara programme, Prime Minister Modi will flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT in Mumbai.
He will also flag off a new passenger train connecting Tanda Road with Vadodara (Pratapnagar), adding another rail service to the region.
Another significant project to be dedicated to the nation is the Jobat-Tanda Road new railway line, developed under the Chhota Udepur-Dhar rail project. The line will provide railway connectivity to remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur, linking them more closely with the national rail network.
₹9,700 Crore Railway Expansion Projects
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three railway projects extending across 329 kilometres, with a combined estimated cost of more than ₹9,700 crore.
These projects include the third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, gauge conversion of the Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar section and doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi line.
The projects are aimed at increasing passenger and freight handling capacity, easing congestion on busy routes and improving railway connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Highway Projects to Strengthen Road Connectivity
Road infrastructure will also receive a major push during the visit. Foundation stones will be laid for three National Highway projects with an estimated investment of around ₹1,780 crore.
The works include six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan stretch of NH-48. Another project involves additional structures, including major bridges over the Tapi and Narmada rivers, along the Vadodara-Surat section of NH-48.
Grade-separated structures will also be developed at Abhava, Mindhola and Khajod junctions on NH-53. These projects are expected to improve traffic movement, road safety and connectivity across key commercial corridors.
Gujarat Projects Worth ₹2,600 Crore
Prime Minister Modi will also launch and initiate several Government of Gujarat projects valued at around ₹2,600 crore.
Among the projects receiving foundation stones are Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam and a new office building for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
Completed projects to be inaugurated include housing developments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and a water-supply project covering 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
PM Modi to Inaugurate Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai
Later in the day, at around 5:45 PM, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Mumbai to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 and address participants.
The seventh edition of the international fintech conference is being held from September 8 to 11 in Mumbai. Since 2020, the event has developed into a major global platform bringing together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms, investors, academics and other stakeholders.
The 2026 edition carries the theme, “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum – Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
The conference will examine how emerging technologies can move beyond experimentation and deliver measurable benefits across financial systems.
Discussions are expected to focus on Agentic AI, programmable finance, tokenisation, quantum technologies and other emerging innovations. The broader objective is to explore ways technology can strengthen trust, inclusion and connectivity while creating practical outcomes for citizens, businesses and economies.
Prime Minister Modi’s Gujarat and Maharashtra engagements therefore combine a substantial infrastructure programme with a major global financial technology forum, highlighting priorities around logistics, railways, highways, renewable energy, urban development and next-generation digital finance.
