On the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a strong message to Pakistan, declaring that any future “misadventure” against India would be met with a response “beyond their imagination.” Addressing soldiers, veterans and dignitaries at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, Singh said India’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the nation’s sovereignty under all circumstances.
Recalling the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War, the Defence Minister said their courage and determination continue to inspire every citizen. He emphasized that India’s military has become stronger, technologically advanced and more capable of responding decisively to any threat.
Operation Sindoor Cited as New Security Doctrine
Rajnath Singh referred to Operation Sindoor as a significant example of India’s evolving defence strategy. He stated that the operation reflected the country’s resolve to act firmly against terrorism and cross-border threats whenever national security is challenged.
According to Singh, the operation demonstrated India’s willingness to respond decisively rather than remain confined to a policy of strategic restraint. He added that India’s actions are guided by the need to protect its citizens and maintain regional stability while sending a clear message that terrorism will not go unanswered.
The Defence Minister noted that India’s armed forces possess the capability, coordination and preparedness required for modern warfare, adding that the country’s security establishment has become increasingly integrated across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Sharp Message for Pakistan
Without softening his tone, Singh said Pakistan must understand that any attempt to destabilize India or encourage cross-border terrorism would carry serious consequences.
He remarked that every hostile action would receive a response exceeding Pakistan’s expectations. The Defence Minister also criticized Pakistan’s continued association with extremist elements, contrasting India’s focus on technological progress, innovation and development with what he described as Pakistan’s encouragement of radical networks.
His remarks came amid continued concerns over cross-border security and terrorism, with India repeatedly asserting that it will maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorist activities originating across the border.
Reference to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir
Rajnath Singh also reiterated India’s long-standing position regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He asserted that the region remains an inseparable part of India and reaffirmed the government’s constitutional and historical stand on Jammu and Kashmir.
While addressing the gathering, he stressed that India’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity remains unwavering. The remarks reinforced New Delhi’s consistent position on the status of PoK and its determination to protect national interests.
Tribute to the Heroes of Kargil
Paying homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil conflict, the Defence Minister described their sacrifice as the foundation of India’s national pride.

Modernisation of India’s Armed Forces

Investments in indigenous defence manufacturing, advanced surveillance systems, modern weapon platforms and joint operational planning have enhanced the country’s ability to address evolving security challenges.
He said the armed forces are prepared to respond swiftly to conventional as well as emerging threats, including cyber warfare, drone attacks and hybrid warfare. According to him, continuous modernisation remains essential for ensuring India’s long-term national security.

The Defence Minister concluded by stating that the legacy of Kargil is not limited to history but continues to shape India’s defence policies and strategic thinking.
He urged citizens to remember the sacrifices of the soldiers who defended the nation’s borders and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces. Singh said the spirit displayed during the Kargil War serves as a reminder that India’s unity and determination remain its greatest strengths.
