JAISALMER: A major controversy has erupted over the integrity of university examinations in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan after alleged mass copying was detected at a private college in Jaisalmer district. Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU), Jodhpur, has launched a detailed inquiry after its flying squad reportedly found invigilators dictating answers to students during an undergraduate examination. The incident has raised fresh concerns over examination malpractice and the need for stricter monitoring across affiliated colleges.
Flying Squad Detects Alleged Irregularities During Surprise Inspection
According to university officials, the alleged malpractice came to light during a surprise inspection conducted by the university’s flying squad at Shri Karni College in Kajoi village. The inspection took place during the BA second-year Hindi Literature examination held between 7:00 am and 10:00 am on Wednesday. The inspection team claimed that examination supervisors were allegedly helping students by dictating answers inside the examination hall instead of ensuring a fair assessment process.
University Seals 93 Answer Sheets for Investigation
Following the inspection, the university sealed 93 answer sheets and registered a case of suspected mass copying. Officials said the answer books have been preserved as evidence and will be examined thoroughly as part of the inquiry. A preliminary review reportedly found striking similarities in several answer sheets, strengthening suspicions that students may have been provided identical responses during the examination.
CCTV Footage Under Review
The university has also begun reviewing CCTV footage collected from the examination centre. Officials involved in the inquiry stated that the available footage appears to indicate that answers were being dictated to students inside the classroom. However, authorities clarified that the final conclusion will only be reached after a comprehensive investigation examining both the recorded footage and other available evidence.
Senior Faculty Members Led the Inspection Team
The flying squad that carried out the inspection consisted of senior university faculty members, including Prof. Aman Singh, Dr. Suresh Choudhary, Dr. Lalit Jhala and Dr. Gaurav Jain. Their surprise visit formed part of the university’s ongoing efforts to monitor examination centres and prevent unfair practices during the examination season. The inspection reportedly exposed irregularities serious enough to trigger immediate disciplinary action and an official inquiry.
Education Officials Stress Need for Fair Examinations
Reacting to the incident, education administrators stressed that examination malpractice undermines the efforts of thousands of honest students who spend months preparing for their university examinations. They said any unfair advantage given to candidates damages the credibility of the education system and affects deserving students competing on merit.
SBK College Jaisalmer Principal Shyamsundar Meena also expressed concern over the alleged incident. He stated that encouraging unfair practices during examinations is unacceptable because it compromises the future of sincere students. According to him, examinations must remain transparent and merit-based so that hardworking candidates receive equal opportunities to succeed.
Vice-Chancellor Assures Strict Action Against Guilty
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma assured that the university would adopt a zero-tolerance approach if the allegations are confirmed. He said maintaining fairness and transparency in examinations remains one of the institution’s highest priorities. He further stated that strict disciplinary action would be initiated against every individual found responsible once the inquiry report is submitted.
“Maintaining fairness and transparency in examinations is our top priority. We have a zero-tolerance policy against malpractice, and action will be taken based on the inquiry report,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
Inspection Expanded to Other Examination Centres
The investigation has not been limited to a single examination centre. The university’s flying squad also inspected centres in Undu, Fatehgarh and Ramgarh in Jaisalmer district, along with the Shiv area of neighbouring Barmer district. Officials reported that another cheating-related case was noticed during inspections, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance across multiple examination centres.
University Tightens Monitoring Amid Ongoing Exams
In response to the controversy, university authorities have increased vigilance throughout the ongoing examination process. More surprise inspections are being planned to ensure examination rules are followed strictly. Officials believe stronger monitoring, CCTV verification and prompt disciplinary action are essential to restore confidence in the university’s examination system.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the persistent challenge of examination malpractice in higher education institutions across the country.
