NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday highlighted the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government over the past 12 years, asserting that India has emerged as a strong and secure nation capable of protecting its citizens while delivering decisive responses to threats against national security.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Shah said the country has been transformed into a “bastion of security” under the leadership of Prime Minister , citing several major decisions and security operations undertaken since 2014.

India Rebuilt as a Strong Security State

According to Shah, the last 12 years have witnessed a significant shift in India’s security approach, with the government adopting a proactive stance against both internal and external threats.

He said the country has moved away from a defensive posture and demonstrated its capability to respond decisively to challenges. The Home Minister stated that India’s security architecture has been strengthened through a combination of military actions, policy decisions and sustained efforts to maintain peace across sensitive regions.

He emphasized that national security has remained one of the central priorities of the Modi government since assuming office.

Strong Response to Cross-Border Threats

Shah highlighted India’s military responses against terrorism originating across the border. He referred to the surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor as examples of the government’s willingness to take firm action against threats to national sovereignty.

The surgical strikes conducted in 2016 targeted terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control following the Uri terror attack. Subsequently, the Balakot air strike in 2019 was carried out after the Pulwama terror attack.

More recently, Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding its borders.

According to Shah, these operations have showcased India’s evolving defence capabilities and established a clear message that any attack on the country would receive a strong response.

Abrogation of Article 370 a Landmark Decision

The Home Minister also pointed to the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 as one of the government’s most significant national security achievements.

The move ended the special constitutional status previously enjoyed by the former state of Jammu and Kashmir and reorganised it into two Union Territories.

The government has consistently argued that the decision has helped integrate the region more closely with the rest of India while creating conditions for better governance, development and improved security.

Officials have repeatedly stated that the move has contributed to reducing separatist activities and strengthening administrative control.

Major Push Against Naxalism

Shah further highlighted the government’s efforts to eliminate Left Wing Extremism, commonly referred to as Naxalism.

Over the past several years, security agencies have intensified operations in affected regions, leading to a decline in incidents of violence and weakening the operational networks of extremist groups.

The government has simultaneously focused on development initiatives, infrastructure expansion and welfare programmes in affected districts to address the root causes of extremism.

Shah has previously reiterated the Centre’s commitment to making India free from Naxalism within a defined timeframe.

Northeast Witnesses Greater Stability Through Peace Accords

The Home Minister also underscored the importance of peace-building initiatives in the Northeastern states.

He said the government has signed more than 12 agreements with various groups and stakeholders to bring lasting peace and stability to the region.

These accords have aimed at resolving long-standing conflicts, promoting development and integrating communities into the mainstream.

The government believes that these agreements have significantly reduced violence and improved the socio-economic environment in the Northeast.

Infrastructure projects, connectivity initiatives and increased investments have also become key components of the broader strategy for regional development.

India’s Security Model Gains Global Attention

Shah asserted that India’s comprehensive approach towards national security has created a model that many countries are closely observing.

He said the government’s actions over the past 12 years reflect a strong commitment to protecting citizens and defending national interests without compromise.

According to him, India’s security policies now combine robust military preparedness, intelligence coordination, technological advancement and strategic policymaking.

The Home Minister added that these efforts have strengthened public confidence and enhanced India’s standing on the global stage.

As the Modi government completes 12 years marked by several landmark decisions, national security continues to remain one of its key pillars, with the Centre projecting a vision of a stronger, safer and more resilient India for the future.
