General Dhiraj Seth Takes Over as Chief of the Army Staff
General Dhiraj Seth officially assumed charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) on Tuesday, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, who retired after serving the nation for more than 40 years. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, General Dhiraj Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. Since then, he has built an impressive service record through command and staff appointments across diverse operational environments.
His command experience covers an Armoured Regiment in the desert sector, an Armoured Brigade in the western theatre and a Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu and Kashmir. These assignments exposed him to both conventional warfare and counter-insurgency operations, strengthening his operational leadership credentials.
As a Lieutenant General, he commanded the prestigious Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Indian Army’s principal strike formations responsible for maintaining operational preparedness in critical sectors. Following his promotion to the rank of Army Commander, General Seth led both the South Western Command and the Southern Command.
