The Union Cabinet on Wednesday adopted a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history, marking June 10, 2026, as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey.
According to the resolution, Prime Minister Modi has completed 4,399 consecutive days in office as an elected Prime Minister, surpassing the previous record of 4,398 continuous days held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, between 1952 and 1964.
The Cabinet described the achievement as a reflection of India’s democratic strength, public trust, and active citizen participation. It stated that the milestone demonstrates the confidence reposed by the people in a leader guided by the principle of “Nation First.”
The resolution also noted that the achievement coincides with the completion of 12 years of governance under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Modi. It further highlighted that the Prime Minister is nearing 25 years of uninterrupted service as the head of a government, counting his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and Prime Minister.
Praising Modi’s leadership, the Cabinet said the country has witnessed governance driven by commitment, decisiveness, sensitivity, and long-term vision. It pointed out that the NDA secured a third consecutive mandate, a feat achieved after nearly six decades in Indian politics.
The resolution recalled Modi’s pledge in 2014 to serve as the nation’s “Pradhan Sevak” and emphasized the government’s focus on welfare and inclusive development. It highlighted efforts to provide housing, electricity, drinking water, sanitation facilities, direct benefit transfers, free food grains, and healthcare coverage to millions of citizens.
According to the Cabinet, welfare initiatives and targeted development programs have contributed to improving living standards and helped more than 25 crore people rise above poverty.
The document also highlighted the government’s emphasis on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, innovation, and scientific advancement. It cited India’s emergence as one of the world’s leading startup ecosystems and achievements in space exploration, including the Chandrayaan missions.
Women’s empowerment was another key theme of the resolution. The Cabinet referred to initiatives such as clean cooking fuel distribution, self-help group support through the Lakhpati Didi programme, and the passage of legislation providing 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
For the agriculture sector, the resolution noted measures including PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and expanded access to Kisan Credit Cards for farmers, livestock owners, and fishermen. It stated that these initiatives have strengthened rural livelihoods and contributed to growth in agricultural exports.
The Cabinet further commended the government for implementing several major reforms and policy decisions, including the abrogation of Article 370, the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), One Rank One Pension (OROP), the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and labour reforms.
National security was highlighted as a major area of achievement. The resolution referred to actions against terrorism, including surgical strikes, cross-border military operations, Operation Sindoor, and steps related to the Indus Waters Treaty. It also noted progress in reducing Naxal violence, peace initiatives in the North-East, and efforts to resolve regional disputes.
On the global stage, the Cabinet credited Modi’s leadership for enhancing India’s international profile through initiatives such as the G20 Presidency, International Yoga Day, the International Solar Alliance, and Mission LiFE.
Concluding the resolution, the Union Cabinet extended its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Prime Minister Modi. It expressed confidence that under his leadership, India would continue progressing toward the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 while advancing as a self-reliant, secure, prosperous, and globally respected country.
