KOLKATA: In a major political development in West Bengal, MLA Ritabrata Banerjee has emerged as the new Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly after a group of rebel legislators submitted their claim before the Assembly Speaker. The move comes amid an escalating internal crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), raising questions about the future of the party and the balance of power in the state legislature.
According to reports, a bloc of around 58 legislators backing Ritabrata Banerjee submitted a letter to Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose seeking recognition of their group and supporting Banerjee’s elevation as the opposition leader.
