NEW DELHI: Reinforcing the message of health, harmony and holistic wellbeing, the Akshaya Patra Foundation celebrated International Yoga Day by organising a large-scale yoga session for its employees near its central kitchen at Gole Market in New Delhi. More than 70 staff members from all five Akshaya Patra kitchens across the Delhi-NCR region participated enthusiastically in the event.

The programme was held as part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to encourage healthy lifestyles and improve the physical and mental wellbeing of its workforce. Employees gathered early in the morning to take part in a series of yoga exercises, breathing techniques and meditation sessions designed to promote overall wellness.

Focus on Holistic Health And Employee Wellbeing

The yoga session was led by experienced instructors including Ganga Prasad Sharma, Saurabh Goyal, Shivani Yadav, Nisha Goyal and Meghashree. The trainers guided participants through various yoga postures, pranayama exercises and mindfulness practices while explaining their benefits for maintaining physical fitness and mental balance.

Participants were encouraged to understand yoga not merely as a form of exercise but as a complete lifestyle practice that helps improve concentration, reduce stress and enhance overall quality of life.

The instructors also highlighted how regular yoga can contribute to stronger immunity, better posture, improved flexibility and emotional stability, especially amid increasingly demanding work schedules.

Promoting India’s ancient tradition

Officials from the Akshaya Patra Foundation described yoga as one of India’s greatest contributions to the world and an essential component of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.

They emphasised that the organisation remains committed to creating a positive work environment where employee wellbeing is treated as a priority alongside professional responsibilities.

According to foundation representatives, such initiatives are conducted regularly to motivate employees to adopt healthier habits and maintain a balance between physical health and mental wellness.

The celebration also aligned with the broader national objective of encouraging citizens to make yoga a part of their everyday lives.

The event witnessed active participation from employees representing various operational units across Delhi-NCR. Staff members performed yoga exercises together and later pledged to incorporate regular yoga practice into their daily routines.

The collective participation reflected a growing awareness among employees about the importance of preventive healthcare and stress management.

Yoga Continues To Gain Momentum Nationwide

Organisations, educational institutions, government departments and private entities increasingly use the occasion to promote wellness initiatives among employees and communities.

Akshaya Patra’s celebration reflected this larger movement by combining workplace wellness with India’s traditional knowledge systems, demonstrating how organisations can play an active role in building healthier communities.

By encouraging regular yoga practice among employees, the foundation aims to create a culture that values both physical health and mental resilience, ensuring that wellbeing remains an integral part of everyday life rather than a once-a-year celebration.
