Kolkata: BJP leader and former Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha candidate Abhijit Das Bobby has filed a fresh complaint seeking the reopening of an alleged 2018 attack case, accusing Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary and several others of being involved in a conspiracy behind the assault.
Abhijit Das Bobby said that he was attacked on December 21, 2018, when he was serving as the BJP’s district president in the region. He alleged that the assault left him permanently disabled and that he continues to face severe mobility challenges. “We want a new Diamond Harbour where there is no place for criminals, extortion or anti-social activities,” Mr. Abhijit said.
According to Abhijit Das Bobby, the attack was allegedly planned by Abhishek Banerjee along with several associates. He claimed that around 150 anti-social elements were involved in the incident and that their names were mentioned in his complaint. He further alleged that despite repeated appeals to the administration in 2018, an FIR was not registered because of the prevailing political environment in the state at the time.
The BJP leader said that with the passage of time and changing circumstances, he has now submitted a fresh complaint requesting a detailed investigation into the case. He expressed hope that authorities would conduct a fair probe and take legal action against all those allegedly involved in the attack.
“The struggle existed then and continues today,” Das Bobby said, asserting that he remains committed to pursuing justice through legal means.
Abhijit Das Bobby has been a prominent BJP face in South 24 Parganas and has been associated with the party’s organizational activities in the Diamond Harbour region for several years. He gained statewide attention after emerging as one of the BJP’s key leaders challenging TMC’s dominance in the constituency represented by Abhishek Banerjee. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Abhijit Das Bobby contested from the Diamond Harbour parliamentary seat against Abhishek Banerjee.
Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Abhijit Das alleged large-scale electoral irregularities and claimed that the margin of victory would have been significantly lower without what he described as “booth capturing and fraudulent voting.” He also stated that he had pursued legal avenues regarding election-related issues and expressed confidence in the judicial process.
The BJP leader further claimed that legal developments could eventually impact the validity of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha election result. He said he has full faith in the country’s legal system and believes that appropriate action will be taken after a thorough examination of the evidence.
Launching a fresh attack on the TMC leadership, Mr. Abhijit Das alleged that Diamond Harbour had witnessed the growth of criminal and anti-social activities under the current political establishment. He pledged to work towards creating a constituency free from criminal influence, extortion, illegal arms and other unlawful activities.
