The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance has expressed deep concern over what it described as a worsening security situation for the country’s Hindu minority, following the brutal killing of four members of a family in Rangpur.
The organisation held an emergency meeting on Sunday, August 23, at 9 am, where its senior leaders discussed what they called a growing pattern of violence, intimidation and insecurity affecting Hindu communities across Bangladesh.
Secretary General Advocate Govinda Chandra Pramanik highlighted the alleged deterioration of the situation, while President Advocate Dinabandhu Roy, Executive President Advocate Pradeep Kumar Pal and Women’s Affairs Secretary Advocate Pratibha Bakshi also took part in the meeting.
According to the organisation, the Hindu community has faced increasing fear and uncertainty since the mass uprising of 2024. The alliance alleged that incidents involving land grabbing, threats, killings, forced displacement and pressure to leave the country have become increasingly frequent.
Four Family Members Killed in Rangpur
The immediate trigger for the organisation’s strong reaction was the reported killing of four members of a Hindu family in Rangpur city.
According to the Hindu alliance, former Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, their daughter Parthi Chakraborty, 25, and their 12-year-old son Ayas Chakraborty were allegedly murdered in the Machuapara area of Rangpur on Saturday.
The organisation described the incident as a particularly horrifying attack and said it had intensified fear among members of the Hindu community.
The alliance alleged that a series of violent incidents against minorities has taken place across the country in recent months. It also accused the authorities of failing to provide adequate protection to vulnerable communities.
However, these allegations reflect the position of the Hindu alliance and would require independent verification through police records, investigations and other credible sources.
Concerns Over Political Representation
During the emergency meeting, Hindu leaders also raised concerns about what they described as declining political representation and reduced opportunities for members of the Hindu community in government and semi-government institutions.
The organisation alleged that political developments following the 2024 uprising and subsequent changes in government have contributed to a sense of insecurity among minorities.
The alliance further claimed that the growth of religious fundamentalism and militant activity has affected normal life in Hindu-majority localities and created an atmosphere of fear.
The group criticised the authorities for what it characterised as an inadequate response to incidents of violence. It acknowledged that police had made some arrests in connection with certain incidents but alleged that stronger measures were necessary to restore confidence among minorities.
Government Urged to Act Within 24 Hours
The Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance strongly condemned the Rangpur killings and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

The organisation called for the accused in the family murder case to be arrested within 24 hours. It also demanded that the case be handled through a speedy trial process and that those found guilty receive punishment under the law.
The alliance warned that failure to take prompt action could lead to a large-scale movement across Bangladesh.
The demand comes amid heightened concerns over law and order and minority security. Hindu organisations have repeatedly called for stronger protection of religious minorities and swift investigations into alleged attacks.
Calls for Stronger Protection of Minorities
The emergency meeting also focused on the broader question of minority protection in Bangladesh. The Hindu alliance argued that ensuring the safety of citizens regardless of their religious identity is essential for maintaining social stability.
The organisation said the repeated occurrence of alleged attacks has damaged confidence within the Hindu community and urged the authorities to take visible and effective measures.
The alliance’s leaders maintained that arrests alone would not be sufficient and called for transparent investigations, prosecution and punishment in cases involving attacks on minorities.
The Rangpur killings have now become a central issue for the organisation as it seeks accountability and stronger security measures for Hindus across the country.
The alliance said it would closely monitor the government and law-enforcement response. If its demands are not addressed, it warned that it could launch a nationwide protest movement.
For now, the organisation has placed the immediate focus on securing justice for the four victims in Rangpur and restoring a sense of safety among Bangladesh’s Hindu minority.
The allegations made by the Hindu alliance are subject to investigation, and the identities and legal status of any suspects should be confirmed by Bangladeshi law-enforcement authorities before conclusions are drawn.
