Former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him and his party of spreading “lies” over issues concerning students and deliberately avoiding parliamentary discussions where the government can respond.
Pradhan alleged that Rahul Gandhi lacks factual grounding in his accusations and claimed that the Congress is more interested in creating political disruption than addressing the concerns of the country’s youth. His remarks came amid a political confrontation between the ruling establishment and the Congress over issues involving students, Parliament and allegations directed at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Pradhan Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Avoiding Parliamentary Debate
In a strongly worded statement, Pradhan accused Rahul Gandhi of making allegations outside Parliament while allegedly avoiding discussions inside the House.
“Rahul Gandhi lacks facts, and the Leader of Opposition, who habitually lies, neither wants to come to Parliament nor listen to answers,” Pradhan said.
The former minister claimed that the government remains prepared to discuss issues raised by the opposition in Parliament. However, he alleged that Congress members are disrupting proceedings rather than participating in substantive debates.
According to Pradhan, the opposition’s approach prevents Parliament from functioning effectively and ultimately affects issues of national importance, particularly those concerning young people.
‘Congress Is Spreading Lies in Students’ Name’
Pradhan accused Congress of using student-related issues for political purposes and alleged that the party was attempting to create confusion through claims that lacked factual support.
He said, “They just want to spread their lies and shed crocodile tears.”
The BJP leader argued that matters concerning students should be addressed through facts, parliamentary debate and constructive discussion rather than political confrontation.
His comments come at a time when education, examinations and employment-related concerns remain politically sensitive issues, with student welfare frequently becoming a major point of contention between the government and opposition parties.
Amit Shah Allegations Draw Strong Response
Pradhan also defended Union Home Minister Amit Shah against what he described as “baseless” and “factless” allegations made by Rahul Gandhi and Congress.
“Making baseless, factless false accusations against the Honorable Home Minister Shri Amit Shah reveals the political desperation of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress,” he said.
Pradhan argued that the opposition should use Parliament to raise allegations and seek answers rather than relying on public statements and political protests.
The former minister maintained that the government is willing to face questions on every issue and respond to the opposition on the floor of the House.
‘Parliament Is the Temple of Democracy’
Taking aim at the disruption of parliamentary proceedings, Pradhan described Parliament House as the “temple of democracy” and accused Congress of obstructing its functioning.
He alleged that the opposition’s conduct was damaging national interests and said political parties should place the welfare of the country and its youth above partisan considerations.
Pradhan said the Congress’s objective was not genuine public welfare but to “prioritize their own interests first.”
He further alleged that Congress leaders create political commotion outside Parliament when discussions are taking place inside because they are unwilling to hear the government’s responses.
Pradhan Raises Jharkhand Student Protest
The former education minister also invoked the recent controversy surrounding students in Jharkhand, questioning Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the matter.
“The brutality against students in Jharkhand has been witnessed by the entire country,” Pradhan said.
He questioned why Rahul Gandhi, whom he described as someone who frequently holds press conferences on political and national issues, had not spoken prominently on the Jharkhand student controversy.
“Why is Rahul Gandhi, who holds press conferences on every issue, maintaining silence today?” Pradhan asked.
The statement seeks to turn the political spotlight toward Congress-ruled Jharkhand and challenge what Pradhan described as the party’s inconsistent approach to democratic and student-related issues.
‘Congress Democracy Is Selective’
Pradhan also accused Congress of practising what he called “selective” democracy, alleging that its response to protests and youth-related issues varies depending on which political party is in power.
“Congress’s democracy is also ‘Selective’—violence against youth where they are in government, and lies and commotion where they want to shine politically,” he alleged.
His remarks reflect the intensifying political battle between the BJP and Congress over democratic institutions, parliamentary functioning, student protests and the conduct of state governments.
Emergency-Era Mindset Allegation
In one of his strongest attacks, Pradhan accused Rahul Gandhi and Congress of carrying an “Emergency-era” mindset and said there was no place for dictatorship in a democracy.
“There is no place for dictatorship in democracy,” Pradhan said, adding that Rahul Gandhi and Congress should understand this.
The remarks are likely to intensify the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress, with both sides continuing to accuse each other of undermining democratic institutions.
Pradhan’s statement ultimately framed the dispute as a larger battle over parliamentary democracy, accountability and youth interests. While Congress has raised its own concerns and allegations against the government, Pradhan argued that the opposition should bring those issues before Parliament and participate in debate rather than disrupting proceedings.
The exchange highlights the widening political divide between the ruling BJP and the Congress-led opposition, with Parliament once again emerging as the central arena for competing claims over governance, democracy and the interests of India’s youth.
