Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) seven years ago marked a historic turning point for Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh, asserting that the decision has accelerated development, expanded opportunities, and ensured equal constitutional rights for all citizens in the region.
Marking the seventh anniversary of the constitutional change made on August 5, 2019, the Prime Minister described the day as a defining milestone in India’s journey toward inclusive growth and national integration. He stated that the region has witnessed significant progress across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports.
According to the Prime Minister, the full implementation of the Constitution of India has empowered people who were previously deprived of several constitutional rights. He emphasized that women and members of marginalized communities have particularly benefited from the reforms, gaining access to rights and opportunities that were unavailable for decades.
Government Reiterates Commitment to J&K and Ladakh
In his message, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to ensuring sustained development in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He said every citizen should have the opportunity to pursue their aspirations and contribute to the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.
Sharing his views on social media platform X, the Prime Minister stated that the constitutional changes initiated on August 5, 2019, opened a new chapter for the two Union Territories. He said the transformation witnessed over the past seven years reflects the government’s focus on inclusive governance and equal opportunities.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that infrastructure projects have expanded rapidly, while sectors such as education and healthcare have seen steady improvements. He added that entrepreneurship and sports have emerged as important areas creating new opportunities for young people.
The government has consistently maintained that the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A) has enabled better implementation of welfare schemes, strengthened governance, and promoted socio-economic development across the region.
125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Remembered
Prime Minister Modi noted that this year’s anniversary carries additional significance as the nation is commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
He said Dr. Mookerjee devoted his life to strengthening India’s unity and integrity, adding that the vision he championed found historic realization with the constitutional changes introduced on August 5, 2019.
According to the Prime Minister, Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals continue to inspire generations, and his contribution remains an important chapter in India’s political history.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government’s objective remains focused on creating equal opportunities for every citizen while strengthening national unity through inclusive development.
Rajnath Singh Says New Era of Peace and Equal Opportunity Has Emerged
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also marked the seventh anniversary by stating that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) ushered in a new phase of peace, progress, and equal opportunity for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

In his statement, Singh said that the constitutional decision has contributed to creating a more prosperous future for the region while reinforcing India’s commitment to national integration.
Recalling the legacy of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee during his 125th birth anniversary year, the Defence Minister paid tribute to his unwavering commitment to India’s unity. He said Dr. Mookerjee’s vision found historic fulfillment through the constitutional changes implemented in 2019.

Singh further stated that India remains united in its resolve to ensure the continued development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh while working toward the broader national objective of building a Viksit Bharat.

The seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) comes amid the Centre’s continued emphasis on infrastructure expansion, welfare initiatives, economic development, tourism, and improved public services in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Government leaders have consistently highlighted increased investments in roads, railways, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and employment opportunities as indicators of the region’s changing landscape since 2019.
The Centre has also maintained that extending the full provisions of the Constitution has strengthened democratic governance and ensured equal rights for all citizens residing in the Union Territories.
