Thirteen Indian seafarers remain stranded aboard a cargo vessel docked at Ukraine’s Chornomorsk Port as repeated drone and missile attacks continue to hit the surrounding region, raising serious concerns about their safety. The Indian sailors are among a total crew of 15 currently unable to leave the vessel because of the deteriorating security situation in the Black Sea conflict zone.
According to reports, the vessel has been stuck at the port while hostilities between Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify. Frequent aerial attacks in and around the port area have made normal maritime operations nearly impossible, leaving the crew effectively trapped onboard.
Maritime Union Raises Alarm
The Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) has urged the Government of India to intervene immediately and ensure the safe evacuation of the stranded sailors. The union warned that the crew is living under constant threat as explosions and air raid alerts have become a routine part of daily life in the region.
FSUI officials described the situation as extremely dangerous, saying that the seafarers are facing both physical and psychological stress while waiting for a safe opportunity to leave the conflict-hit area.
The organization has appealed to Indian authorities to coordinate with Ukrainian officials, international maritime agencies and the vessel’s operators to facilitate the crew’s evacuation at the earliest.
