NEW DELHI: The Monsoon Session of Parliament commenced on Monday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a strong appeal to Members of Parliament to ensure meaningful discussions and productive debates in the interest of the nation. Addressing the media outside Parliament before the proceedings began, Modi said the arrival of the monsoon and the beginning of the parliamentary session should inspire lawmakers to work collectively for India’s development.
Drawing a parallel between the rainy season and parliamentary functioning, the Prime Minister remarked, “Monsoon has set in, and the Monsoon Session is also beginning. When both become proactive, they become productive and contribute to the country’s development.” The statement underscored his appeal for cooperation across party lines despite expectations of an intense political session.
PM Modi Calls for Nation-First Approach
The Prime Minister said Parliament remains the highest democratic institution where discussions should focus on the welfare of citizens rather than political confrontation. He expressed confidence that lawmakers would use the session to deliberate on important issues affecting the country.
Modi stressed that every session of Parliament offers an opportunity to strengthen democracy and accelerate development through constructive policymaking. He urged MPs to actively participate in debates and legislative work instead of allowing repeated disruptions.
“A proactive Parliament becomes a productive Parliament, and a productive Parliament strengthens the nation,” the Prime Minister said while reiterating that the welfare of the people should remain the guiding principle of every discussion.
Stormy Session Expected
While the Prime Minister called for consensus, the Monsoon Session is expected to witness sharp exchanges between the ruling NDA government and Opposition parties.
Several Opposition leaders have indicated that they will press the government on a range of issues, including governance, public welfare, recent controversies and matters concerning accountability. The Centre, on the other hand, is expected to push ahead with an ambitious legislative agenda during the session.
Political observers believe the coming weeks could see prolonged debates as both sides attempt to shape the national narrative inside Parliament.
PM’s Message Focuses on Cooperation
Prime Minister Modi’s remarks reflected a broader appeal for cooperation despite political differences. His message emphasised that Parliament should function as a forum where ideas are debated with dignity and where legislation is framed keeping citizens’ interests at the forefront.

Security Tightened Around Parliament
Security arrangements were significantly enhanced across central Delhi as Parliament convened for the Monsoon Session. Additional police personnel were deployed around Parliament House, Vijay Chowk and adjoining areas following announcements by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) regarding a proposed march towards Parliament.
Delhi Police had earlier clarified that no application seeking permission for such a march had been received and no approval had been granted. Authorities warned that any attempt to violate prohibitory orders would invite legal action.
Barricades were installed at several strategic locations, and security agencies maintained strict surveillance throughout the day to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.
Legislative Business Takes Centre Stage
The government has lined up several important bills and policy measures for discussion during the session, which is scheduled to continue until August. Besides legislative business, debates on economic reforms, governance, national security and social welfare programmes are also expected.
The Centre has repeatedly appealed to Opposition parties to participate in discussions through parliamentary procedures rather than disrupting proceedings. Government leaders maintain that uninterrupted debates will allow Parliament to fulfil its constitutional responsibility and address issues of national importance
