DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand has emerged as one of the worst-hit states, where continuous rainfall has caused landslides in the hill districts and disrupted road connectivity. A fresh spell of intense monsoon rainfall has unleashed widespread destruction across several northern states, claiming at least 10 lives while triggering landslides, flash floods, road closures, and waterlogging.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for parts of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, warning of more heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Uttarakhand Faces Landslides and Travel Disruptions
Heavy rainfall throughout Uttarakhand has led to multiple landslides in the mountainous regions, damaging roads and blocking key highways. Rescue teams and local authorities have been deployed to clear debris and restore connectivity wherever possible.

Death Toll Rises Amid Monsoon Fury
The ongoing monsoon has already claimed at least 10 lives in rain-related incidents across different states. Fatalities have been reported due to landslides, flooding, collapsing structures, and other weather-related accidents.

Uttar Pradesh Under Red Alert
The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts of Uttar Pradesh, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Many districts are expected to witness intense downpours capable of causing flash floods, overflowing rivers, and urban flooding. As a precaution, educational institutions have reportedly been closed in several districts while district administrations have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Authorities are also keeping a close watch on river water levels, as continuous rainfall may lead to flooding in low-lying areas.
Himachal Pradesh Battles Flash Floods and Cloudbursts
Neighbouring Himachal Pradesh is also facing severe monsoon-related damage. Flash floods and cloudbursts have washed away bridges, blocked highways, and isolated several villages.
Multiple roads remain closed because of landslides, while restoration work continues under difficult weather conditions. Local authorities have deployed machinery to remove debris, but continuous rainfall has slowed relief efforts.
Residents in vulnerable districts have been urged to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, with officials warning that fresh landslides remain a major threat.
Rivers Swell Across Northern India
Continuous rainfall has caused rivers and streams across North India to swell rapidly. Water levels in several rivers flowing through Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are being monitored closely as authorities prepare for possible flooding.
People living near riverbanks and flood-prone areas have been advised to shift to safer locations if necessary. Local administrations have activated emergency control rooms and disaster response teams to deal with any sudden emergency.

The latest spell of heavy rainfall comes shortly after the southwest monsoon completed its advance across the entire country. Meteorologists say active monsoon conditions, supported by favourable weather systems, are responsible for the widespread rainfall now affecting many states.
Apart from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, heavy rain warnings have also been issued for Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and several other regions.
Weather experts expect monsoon activity to remain vigorous over the next few days, increasing the likelihood of additional heavy rainfall episodes.
Authorities Appeal for Caution
State governments and disaster management agencies have appealed to residents and tourists to follow official advisories and avoid travelling through landslide-prone or flood-affected areas.
Emergency services remain on standby with rescue teams, medical personnel, and relief equipment positioned in vulnerable districts. Authorities have also urged people to stay updated through official weather bulletins and immediately report any emergency situations.
With more rain forecast over the coming days, officials say preparedness and public cooperation will play a crucial role in minimising the impact of the ongoing monsoon season.
