NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a six-day, three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from July 6 to 11, 2026, aimed at reinforcing India’s growing engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit is expected to further deepen strategic partnerships, promote economic cooperation, strengthen people-to-people ties, and advance India’s Act East Policy and MAHASAGAR Vision.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes visits to Indonesia from July 6 to 8, followed by Australia and New Zealand, where discussions will cover a broad spectrum of bilateral and regional issues, including defence, trade, technology, education, mobility and maritime cooperation.
Indonesia Visit to Reinforce Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Modi’s first destination is Indonesia, where he is visiting at the invitation of Indonesian President . The visit marks his first bilateral trip to the country since India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
The visit also follows President Prabowo’s State Visit to India as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025.
Highlighting the importance of the relationship, Prime Minister Modi said, “India and Indonesia share strong civilizational and people-to-people ties and my visit will further deepen all aspects of our multifaceted partnership.”
During his stay, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral discussions with President Prabowo covering political, economic, maritime and regional cooperation. He is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian diaspora living in Indonesia.
A significant cultural highlight of the visit will be a joint visit by the two leaders to the historic complex in Yogyakarta, one of Southeast Asia’s largest Hindu temple complexes. The visit is expected to underscore the centuries-old cultural and civilizational links shared between India and Indonesia.
Australia Visit to Expand Strategic and Economic Cooperation
Following Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister .
India and Australia have significantly strengthened their relationship over the past few years under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, with growing collaboration in defence, maritime security, trade, critical minerals, education and technology.

Prime Minister Modi said the visit would help advance cooperation across several priority sectors.
PM Modi also said, “My visit will strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and I shall, in my discussions with Prime Minister Albanese, take forward our relations in the areas of defence and security, trade and investments, education and mobility and people-to-people ties.”
The two leaders are also expected to discuss collaboration in emerging and critical technologies, innovation, sports and sports science, reflecting the expanding scope of bilateral engagement.
The Prime Minister will additionally interact with members of the Indian community in Australia, acknowledging their contribution as a vital pillar of the bilateral relationship.
New Zealand Visit to Build on Growing Economic Partnership
The final leg of the tour will take Prime Minister Modi to Auckland at the invitation of New Zealand Prime Minister .
The visit follows Prime Minister Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025, which injected fresh momentum into bilateral ties.
Economic cooperation will remain at the centre of discussions during the Auckland visit. The two leaders are expected to review progress following the signing of the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and explore opportunities for expanding trade, investment and commercial partnerships.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of strengthening economic engagement, saying, “I shall discuss with Prime Minister Luxon how to further enhance economic, trade and commercial engagements.”
He further noted that the Indian diaspora has played a significant role in strengthening bilateral relations. PM Modi said, “I look forward to addressing a large gathering of the Indian community who have excelled in all spheres of life.”
Visit Reinforces India’s Indo-Pacific Vision
The three-nation tour reflects India’s sustained commitment to strengthening partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region amid evolving geopolitical and economic dynamics.
Indonesia occupies a strategic position in Southeast Asia, Australia remains one of India’s closest strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific, while New Zealand is emerging as an increasingly important economic and regional partner.
The Prime Minister said the visits collectively would reinforce India’s broader regional vision.
“My visit to Indonesia and Australia in the Eastern and Southern Indian Ocean respectively, followed by New Zealand will further strengthen India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision as well as our outlook towards a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
The tour is expected to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors while reaffirming India’s commitment to a stable, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region built on mutual trust, connectivity, economic growth and shared democratic values.
