NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will begin a significant multi-country diplomatic tour that will take him across the Gulf region, the United States, and Europe between July 5 and July 15, 2026. The visit is aimed at strengthening India’s bilateral ties with key partner nations, advancing strategic cooperation, and promoting the country’s diplomatic priorities on the global stage.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the tour reflects India’s continued engagement with important regional and international partners while also creating opportunities to discuss pressing geopolitical developments and areas of mutual interest.
Focus on Gulf Partnerships
Dr. Jaishankar’s first leg of the visit covers four Gulf countries—Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman—from July 5 to July 10. During the tour, he is scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts and senior leadership in each country.
The discussions are expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, energy, technology, defence, education, healthcare, and people-to-people exchanges. India enjoys longstanding and close relations with all four Gulf nations, which are home to large Indian expatriate communities and remain important partners in the country’s economic and energy security.
Officials indicated that the meetings will also provide an opportunity to review ongoing cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in emerging sectors. Regional developments, security concerns, and other issues of shared interest are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
The Gulf region continues to play a vital role in India’s foreign policy due to its strategic location, growing economic engagement, and strong cultural and historical links with India.
India to Launch UNSC Campaign in New York
Following the completion of the Gulf tour, Dr. Jaishankar will travel to New York, where he will officially launch India’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–29 term.
The campaign launch, scheduled for July 13, marks an important milestone in India’s efforts to secure broader international support for its candidature. India has consistently advocated for a greater role in global governance and has reiterated the need for reforms in multilateral institutions, particularly the UN Security Council.
The launch of the campaign is expected to highlight India’s contributions to international peacekeeping, sustainable development, climate action, counter-terrorism, and its commitment to representing the interests of developing nations.
Diplomatic outreach during the campaign is likely to focus on strengthening partnerships with UN member states and reinforcing India’s vision of a more representative, transparent, and effective international order.

Trade and Technology Talks in Brussels
The final phase of the External Affairs Minister’s tour will take him to Brussels on July 14 and 15, where he will participate in the third India-European Union Trade and Technology Council meeting.
The Trade and Technology Council serves as a key platform for enhancing cooperation between India and the European Union in critical areas such as digital technologies, resilient supply chains, clean energy, innovation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and strategic trade.
During his stay in Brussels, Dr. Jaishankar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the European Union and Belgium. These interactions are likely to review the progress of India-EU relations and discuss ways to deepen cooperation across economic, strategic, and technological sectors.
India and the European Union have been working to expand their partnership through increased investment, trade negotiations, connectivity initiatives, and collaboration on emerging technologies. The meetings are expected to reinforce the momentum in bilateral engagement.
Strengthening India’s Global Engagement
The multi-nation visit comes at a time when India is actively expanding its diplomatic footprint through deeper engagement with strategic partners across different regions.
