New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s defence preparedness, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated multiple advanced technologies aimed at strengthening the country’s ability to counter a wide range of aerial and maritime threats. The achievements were showcased through three consecutive flight-tests conducted on June 10 and 11, 2026.

The trials focused on validating India’s multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system and the maiden flight-test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR). Senior officials from DRDO and the Armed Forces witnessed the tests, which are being viewed as a significant step in enhancing the nation’s strategic defence capabilities. “These tests have put the country in the elite group of nations having BMD capability to engage up to Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles,”said the statement.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the multi-layered BMD system successfully intercepted and neutralised its designated targets during the trials. The interceptors performed as planned, demonstrating their ability to counter long-range ballistic missile threats. The system has been designed and developed using cutting-edge technologies to address evolving missile challenges and emerging security concerns.

Defence experts believe the successful demonstration places India among a select group of countries possessing advanced ballistic missile defence capabilities. The achievement is particularly significant as the system has demonstrated the potential to engage ballistic missile threats, including those in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) category.

In addition to the BMD trials, DRDO successfully conducted the maiden flight-test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR). The missile is designed to strengthen the Indian Navy’s ability to engage hostile vessels at medium ranges and enhance maritime security in strategically important waters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and all stakeholders involved in the successful demonstrations, describing the achievements as a major milestone for India’s defence ecosystem.

“The DRDO has successfully demonstrated multiple crucial technologies bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities against different types of enemy threats,” Singh said.

Highlighting the significance of the missile defence trials, the Defence Minister noted that three consecutive flight-tests were successfully carried out to demonstrate India’s ability to defend against long-range ballistic missile threats while also validating anti-ship strike capabilities.

“Multi-layered BMD capability was successfully demonstrated. The interceptors successfully engaged their respective targets. The systems are designed and developed with the latest technologies to address emerging missile threats,” he said.

Emphasising the strategic importance of the achievement, Singh added, “These tests have put India in the elite group of nations having Ballistic Missile Defence capabilities to engage ballistic missiles up to ICBMs.”

Referring to the successful anti-ship missile trial, he stated, “Anti-ship defence at medium range was demonstrated during the maiden flight-test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range. Congratulations to DRDO on successfully demonstrating these crucial technologies.”

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Rajesh Kumar Singh, closely monitored the trials and praised the collaborative efforts of DRDO scientists, industry partners and the defence forces. He lauded the teams for achieving key technological milestones that will contribute significantly to strengthening India’s defence preparedness.

The successful demonstrations come at a time when nations worldwide are investing heavily in advanced missile defence systems and next-generation strike capabilities. India’s progress in these areas reflects the growing maturity of its indigenous defence research and manufacturing ecosystem under the government’s push for self-reliance in defence technologies.

The latest achievements are expected to further enhance India’s deterrence capabilities and provide the armed forces with advanced tools to tackle both conventional and strategic threats across land and maritime domains.
