The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fresh offensive against the West Bengal government over allegations linked to the state’s liquor policy, drawing parallels with controversies that have surfaced in other parts of the country. The party has accused the previous Mamata Banerjee-led administration of facilitating irregularities in the liquor trade and has vowed that those responsible will face legal consequences.
The political confrontation follows reports and investigations that have raised questions about changes made to West Bengal’s excise and liquor policies. According to allegations highlighted by opposition leaders, modifications introduced in the state’s liquor distribution and licensing framework allegedly benefited select private entities, resulting in significant losses to the public exchequer. The BJP has claimed that the issue is not merely administrative but reflects a larger pattern of alleged corruption that marked the tenure of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.
