The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has accelerated extensive civic preparations ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam from September 11 to 13. The civic body is undertaking large-scale cleanliness drives, beautification, green landscaping, decorative lighting, branding and infrastructure maintenance across key routes, markets, hotel zones and areas linked to the movement of VIPs and BRICS delegates.
NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the preparations are aimed at presenting a clean, green, attractive and world-class image of the national capital. He said the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “developed India” and will showcase the transformation of New Delhi on a global platform.
17 Major Roundabouts to Get Decorative Lighting
As part of the preparations, 17 prominent roundabouts will be illuminated with decorative lighting. The locations include Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Mandi House, Shantipath-Kautilya, Shantipath-Panchsheel, Shantipath-Satya Marg, RML, Teen Murti, Q-Point, Claridges Hotel, Samrat Hotel, Ashoka Hotel, Methi, Lok Kalyan Metro Station, Man Singh, York Place and PM Roundabout.
Decorative lighting will also be installed at 11 major hotel complexes associated with the Summit. These include Taj Palace, ITC Maurya, Ashoka Hotel, Samrat Hotel, The Leela Hotel, Taj Mansingh, Claridges Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Le Meridien Hotel and The Imperial Hotel, along with another identified hotel complex. Trees along roads surrounding these hotels will also receive decorative lighting.
10 NDMC Buildings to Be Illuminated
Ten major NDMC buildings and public locations will also be illuminated. These include Palika Kendra, NDCC Phase-II, Convention Centre, Chandralok Building, Ashirwad Old Age Home, the Charakha Museum, Central Park and Palika Bazaar area, AAV Mandir Marg, Lok Nayak Bhawan and Chanakya Bhawan.
NDMC said work orders for these installations have already been issued, with the installation process underway. All such works are scheduled to be completed by September 9.
Large-scale horticultural beautification is another major component of the preparations. Floral display boards will be installed at 15 prominent locations, while flower fountains will be created at nine sites.
More than 15,000 potted plants prepared in NDMC nurseries are being placed along important roads, intersections and prominent public locations to strengthen the green character of New Delhi.
309 Branding Sites Ready for BRICS Summit
NDMC has completed installation work across 309 identified branding sites based on designs shared by the Ministry of External Affairs. These include 154 digital media screens, 83 PTU/CTU flex sites and 72 bus queue shelters.
Around 350 electrical panel boxes installed along roads have also received flex-sticker branding and a facelift, enhancing the visual appearance of major routes.
41 Roads Under Special Monitoring
A total of 41 roads forming part of delegate and VIP routes are being monitored circle-wise. Repairs to roads, footpaths and bus shelters have been completed. Painting work has been completed on 32 roads, while work on the remaining nine roads is progressing and will be completed during dry weather.

Streetlights along all Summit-related routes have undergone 100% verification. Faulty lights identified during inspection have been replaced to ensure reliable illumination during the event.
Special Drainage and Monsoon Preparedness
NDMC has completed 100% verification of identified waterlogging hotspots and 100% desilting of stormwater drains. Additional pumping sets have been arranged along delegate and VVIP routes, while emergency centres will have round-the-clock staffing.
At Baba Kharak Singh Marg, an additional 80 HP pump and a 24 IIP mobile pumping van have been deployed alongside the existing 80 HP pump. At Mandir Marg, an additional 20 HP pump has been installed, along with 45 metres of additional drainage pipe with a 900 mm diameter.
24×7 Monitoring and Cleanliness Arrangements
The Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) at Palika Kendra will operate 24×7 from September 5 to 14. Two senior officers at the Director/Joint Director level will be deployed during each shift, while additional personnel have been assigned for night duties.
NDMC has mapped 14 sanitation circles with 14 inspection circles and arranged round-the-clock cleanliness services along major routes and event areas. Since traffic restrictions are expected during daytime from September 5 to 14, extensive cleaning activities will primarily be undertaken during night shifts.
Seven mechanical road sweepers will conduct specialised night-time road sweeping, while 10 pressure jetting machines will be used for deep cleaning of roads, footpaths and public spaces. Major Summit routes are also undergoing intensive washing.
Action Against Encroachments and Unauthorised Hoardings
Sensitive locations along delegate and VVIP routes have been identified for encroachment control. Removal drives have begun, while unauthorised hoardings and temporary encroachments have been cleared. Market associations have been issued necessary directions, with additional staff deployed for monitoring.
NDMC has also designated a nodal officer for coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs. Teams from horticulture, civil, sanitation and public health departments are continuously reviewing preparations.
Chahal said the extensive arrangements are intended to ensure that visitors experience a clean, green and modern New Delhi. He added that lessons from NDMC’s preparations for the G20 Summit are being applied to the BRICS Summit.
He said the event will showcase the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” along with India’s hospitality, modern civic infrastructure and growing global stature. NDMC aims to ensure that the BRICS Summit presents a powerful image of a clean, green, beautiful and world-class New Delhi aligned with the vision of a developed India.
